Parenting after a Loss

Just keep piling it on....

Just when I was thinking things couldn't get worse....DD woke up screaming at 5:30 this morning and screamed for two hours.  Nothing I did would calm her down and I tried absolutely everything.  I decided to take her to the pedi to be checked out, especially since we're supposed to be flying to my cousin's funeral tomorrow.  She's been congested for a few days and I just wanted to be sure she was okay.  Well of course, she has an ear infection.  Perfect.  It's just the beginning stages, her ear was just pink (not bright red), no fever, etc.  I have antibiotics for her, and numbing ear drops for pain while flying, but I'm just not sure what to do.  I don't know if I should take the chances of flying with her right now.  She's gotten much better throughout the day, and I haven't had to give her any of the ear drops or Tylenol.  I figured I'd wait to see how she does tonight and tomorrow morning before deciding if I should go.  She'll have had 3 doses of her medicine before leaving.  WDYT?  Would you fly if you were in my shoes?

Re: Just keep piling it on....

  • Gabe has had a fair share of ear infections and after 3 or more doses or one day, he's usually feeling pretty good again.  I think you'll be ok to go.  You caught it early, so that's good!

  • Oh Kelly, I'm so sorry.  You've had to go through so much in these past few weeks.  I wish I was close to drive over & give you a big hug!

I would just see how Kara does tonight, but it sounds like she should be okay.  What did your pedi say about it?

  • We didn't see our pedi (who I love), we saw a NP (who I didn't love!)  She was really wishy-washy about it.  When she was talking about the ear drops, she said to give them to Kara before take-off of each flight.  So I said, "So it's okay for me to fly with her still?" and she said, "Well I wouldn't if there is someone you can leave her with."  Ummmm, no I'm not leaving her for four days, and even if I wanted to, my whole family is in Buffalo where we're going, so we have no options!  She said it's really just a question of discomfort, that flying won't cause any damage to her ears.  Obviously I don't want DD to be in any pain, but I thought that's what the numbing drops were for??  And she also said I could give her Tylenol in addition to the drops if necessary.  She wasn't helpful in making this decision!
  • I am so sorry, that is tough. ?I would do it if I were you though. ?((hugs))
  • I hope she feels better. I assume your pedi said it was OK to fly since he gave you the drops.. So I think I would
