Parenting after a Loss

what's missing from this list?

My friend is pregnant with her first (due the day after me!) and is coming over tomorrow. I just made her this list and will walk her through everything in my house so that when she goes to register (I'm hoping to go with her) it won't be so overwhelming. If you have time can you look through and tell me if I forgot any essentials? Thanks!

Nursery/Bedroom

bassinet/sheets

crib

crib sheets (I highly recommend these https://www.cloudsandstars.com/ they zip right off so you never have to take the bumper off to change the sheets -- definitely worth the money!)

changing table

changing table cover

waterproof pads to go over changing table cover (without these we?d have to change the cover every time we changed her)

diaper champ (some people like the diaper genie but we?ve been pretty happy with this one -- we do have to change the bag twice/week to keep it from smelling too bad)

white noise machine (we have the ?Homedics SoundSpa Lullaby Sound Machine? from Bed Bath Beyond. She loves it and has slept with white noise since the day we brought her home from the hospital. I swear this is the reason she started sleeping through the night so early.)?

video monitor (I really love being able to watch her sleep)

Car

infant seat with base (some people want to get the one that will hold the most weight so it will last longer. I got the lightest one knowing that I wouldn?t want to lug her around for too long -- it gets really heavy!)

Bundleme for infant seat (I could have done without this. She was always really hot even in the middle of the winter. But some babies love it. I think they have a Bundleme Light that might have worked better for her)

convertible car seat for when they outgrow the infant seat

mirror so you can see the baby from the front seat

Kitchen/Feeding

high chair (make sure to get one with a washable seat cover -- once the baby starts eating solids, things get VERY messy! I wash the seat cover just about every day. I also really like having a chair on wheels)

booster seat -- good for travel

bibs (10+)

burp cloths (10+)

bottles/pacifiers?

Play (I thought this would be way too many toys but as it turned out she used all of these things A TON. I do feel like we needed all of them.)

swing

bouncy seat

exersaucer

jumperoo

activity mat

Bathroom

infant tub

washcloths (10+)

baby soap & shampoo

hooded towels (2-3)

baby lotion

aquaphor (this stuff is like magic -- get a big tub of it. We use it all the time. We never used any other kind of diaper rash cream.)

Sleepwear

swaddle me with velcro or miracle blanket (SO much easier than trying to swaddle with receiving blankets!)

Strollers

This is a preference thing. Some people get a travel system. I didn?t like how bulky they were. We ended up with 3 strollers but I love all of them and have gotten a TON of use out of all 3.

snap-n-go -- this is for the beginning when the baby is still in the infant seat. The infant seat snaps right into the stroller so you never have to wake the baby to bring him/her anywhere. It is super lightweight and really easy to fold/unfold.

jogging stroller -- we keep this open in the garage. This is what I use for daily walks in the neighborhood. It also is GREAT on the beach and for running.

umbrella stroller -- we have a maclaren and love it. This is what I keep in the car for trips to the mall, park, etc. It is really compact, easy to steer, lightweight and easy to fold/unfold.

Other

pack-n-play (we have used ours in so many different ways. at first we used it as a changing table for downstairs so we didn?t have to go upstairs every time she needed to be changed. Then we used it in our bedroom after she outgrew the bassinet. Now we use it as a playpen. We also use it as a travel crib.)

baby carrier (many people have a bjorn or some sort of sling. We have an ergo carrier and LOVE it. You can?t get it at Babies R Us -- we ordered online. She spent the first few months on my chest and it is SO comfortable. I could get everything done around the house while she slept on my chest. We got this one because you can also wear it on your back like a backpack. This is what we use when we go hiking. I think it holds up to 90lbs or something. I think this is my favorite all-time baby item.)?

  • that's a nicely detailed list!  not sure if you are missing anything...
  • The only things I can think of are a Boppy pillow and sleepsacks.

The only things I can think of are a Boppy pillow and sleepsacks.?

    ooh, good ones -- thanks!!?

  • list looks great to me

BTW - we have bundle me light and we really like it, we took it out for the summer but when fall comes it will go back in!

  • For the nursery, I'd put a glider and ottoman on the list. We use it every day to feed him in the morning and night. Also, we have a diaper organizer for the changing table and it's so helpful for keeping all changing supplies in reach - it's made by Prince Lionheart.

?For kitchen, what about a dishwasher basket for bottle parts and a bottle scrub brush...we use them everyday.

Bathroom - we got a water thermometer and that's how we finally got Mason to enjoy baths - I guess we weren't making the water warm enough. Also a few bath toys for distraction are good.?

Other ideas - individual safety/grooming items (I find the kits contain cheap crap that doesn't get used much, but a good thermometer and bulb suction come in handy), a mobile, a shopping cart cover, a boppy if she will nurse...that's all I can think of for now.?
