Multiples

2 sacs

I am 4/5 weeks pregs. I am a first timer =) I had an ultrasound and I have 2 sacs. Is this twins? will I have to wait until my 2nd tri to find out for certain? my OB also said that my HCG level is low because i have 2 sacs, thus whatever the level is it is has to be divided into 2 because I have 2 sacs.

I will be going again tomorrow for another u/s and another blood test

Re: 2 sacs

  • 2 sacs is the beginning of 2 babies so yes you are on your way to twins.  I also had two sacs at our 5 week u/s we went back a couple weeks later to see heartbeats.

Good luck & keep us updated.

  • You don't have to wait until your second tri to find out for sure. There should be 2 heartbeats by 7weeks if both sacs continue to develop.

Can you get them to schedule another u/s for you in a few weeks???

Also - you said that you are 4/5 weeks pregnant. If you are not sure, maybe your HCG isn't low...

This -- and your OB is a quack if they say you have to divide your beta by 2 because of 2 sacs.  I have NEVER heard this and there is a HUGE overlap of beta numbers between singletons and multiples, so much so that you cannot tell if you have more than one by your beta alone -- only an u/s.

Congrats on your twins!  I hope you can get another u/s at about 7 weeks and see both heartbeats Smile

  • I think they should do a repeat u/s in a couple weeks to see if both sacs are still developing, and if both have a heartbeat. If you are pregnant with twins, and it sounds like you are, you're going to need closer monitoring than someone with a singleton pregnancy.

The whole dividing the beta in two thing, I have never heard of in my life.

The multiples "bible" is written by Dr. Luke, called What to Expect When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads.

    Congrats and good luck!

  • Two sacs - two babies.  They should have already scheduled you for a second ultrasound.  Given what the doctor has already said to you, I would seriously look into getting a different OB.  I have never heard about dividing the beta numbers, never mind the fact that they are not an indicator of multiples at all.

    This.

You do not divide the beta in half because of 2 sacs.
