Brooklyn went to the dr today and she definitely has it. i knew it. i got some cortaid and eucerin lotion. anything else i should get? did this help your LO? has it gone away? does it go away?
DD gets eczema on her elbows. We use Triple Cream and it works wonders. It's the same company that makes Triple Paste for diaper rash (we use this too).
Yup, and it's pretty bad. It's an ongoing battle (DD is 8.5 mos).
California Baby Calendula Cream is the best product we've encountered so far for healing up the dry spots. Aveeno baby lotions have been good for maintenance. I'm slowly cutting dairy and tree nuts out of my diet in case that's a cause for the flare ups. OTC hydrocortisone worked for a while but became ineffective. Aquaphor was a bust.
DD has had it since birth. We use a few different creams (Vanicream -which I'm not sure is sold outside of our area, and another one that I can't remember the name of right now). It gets better, but it has never gone away. I have had it pretty badly my whole life too, so I'm guessing she is going to take after me.
DS has it, and it was very bad at his 2 month appointment. ?Here's what we've done to manage it:
Baths every other day
No baby soap - we use Cetaphil cleanser on his body and hair. ?
Aquaphor on his entire body after bath, and Cetaphil lotion every morning (and on the nights he doesn't get a bath)
Prescription hydrocortizone cream applied to flare ups.
We also switched DS over to Similac Alimentum for his one bottle of formula a day. ?He gets breastmilk the rest of the time, and pedi didn't want me to cut dairy out of my diet. ?He thinks the eczema may be related to a milk protein sensitivity. ?I'm not convinced, but it's hard to tell b/c I haven't cut out dairy.
Since we made these changes, the eczema is MUCH MUCH better. ?He still gets flareups, but they are very manageable with the prescription cream.
I think you should make the changes your pedi suggested. ?If it doesn't get better in a couple weeks, go back.?
FWIW: DS (currently 3 1/2) had it when he was a baby. For us, it was a sign of things to come. He first showed allergic reactions to my parents' cat. We then found out the hard way that he has a peanut allergy. When we went to the allergy doc, he asked us about exzema. There seems to be a relation between them.
Max had eczema (at least I think it was eczema). He was also extremely fussy and gassy. I ended up switching him to a lactose free formula (Similac Sensitive) and it cleared up in about 2 days. I think he was having an issue with the lactose.
Harris had what was probably eczema on his arms and a small spot on his face. I mentioned it to the doctor at 2.5 months but by then it was almost all gone and she couldn't really tell. He has a couple spots that look like they might be coming up again, but I can't tell yet. It's starting the way the others did, though. I never put anything on it. They lasted probably a month and then were gone on their own.
How can you tell eczema from baby acne? DD has little pimple like red bumps on her face and shoulders. I've just chalked it up to baby acne.
I think eczema is more patches, not individual spots. Harris definitely had baby acne, but that too went away by about 2 months. The spots he had that were eczema (probably) were about the size of a dime to a quarter.

Eucerin burned Emma's skin when we used it.
We put Cortaid on the really bad spots.
Now we maintain her skin with cetaphil wash and lotion.
We put the lotion on every morning and every evening.
It really helps a lot!
