Stroller and the City

I need help finding a stroller that converts from infancy to possibly toddlerhood. I do not want to have to get a new stroller once my child ages. The catch is - it needs to be light weight enough to schlep up and down subway stairs (as I am sure many of you know). I also was hoping that the infant stage of use is not a compatible carrier (which inevitably adds weight).

From Consumer Reports I have read about the Zooper Waltz and the Maclaren Techno XT which do not seem to need the carrier attachment for infants.

 Some help pretty please...

Re: Stroller and the City

  • I have the Maclaren Techno XT.  It's pretty good if you want a newborn stroller that transitions to a toddler stroller.  It reclines all the way back which is what you need for a newborn.  I also have a Graco carseat with the stroller frame, and honestly that's the one I use the most.  I like having DS facing towards me and raised.  But if you don't want a carseat one, then the XT is a good option.  The only downside is the basket underneath is not accessible when the seat is reclined all the way back.  And make sure to take your diaper bag off the handles when you take your baby out of the seat, because it will fall back from the weight of the diaper bag.  GL in your search!

  • our single stroller is a peg perego pliko p3.. I think it's light enough, easy to fold , has a handle on the side.

our double (which I love) is a Phil & ted (it can be double or single) ... not a good one for folding and going into the subway when with two kids alone.. as a single maybe, but it's heavier than my peg.

dh wants to get two cheapo umbrella strollers now that the kids are older.  ??? dd doesn't ride enough IMO.

  • I used a maclaren Triumph but honestly since it doesn't recline all the way back it wasn't all that great during infancy.  My BFF is due in a couple of weeks and when we did her registry we found the Peg Perego Aria, it looks great, has extra padding, reclines, has one hand fold and it's only 9lbs.
