Nurseries and Baby Gear

How far along are you when..

You start to order your nursery furniture??  I'm obsessed with trying to find the exact bedding that I want which of course I can't find... I think i've found the furniture, but thinking i'm going to have to make my own.. yikes!!  should I still order furniture and go for it, or is it too early in my pregnancy??

Re: How far along are you when..

  • I'd say it's still too early. I waited until I was to the viable point in my pregnancy with DS (24 weeks). GL

  • We ordered the nursery furniture a few days ago, so 19 weeks.

It was on sale, and several items were already on backorder, so I wanted to be sure to get them at the sale price and not have to wait forever for them to arrive. JCPenney rocks, and we'll have the crib and one other piece later this week! Yay!

  • We ordered it at around 13 weeks and it took about a weeks to get here. Then it sat in the boxes for a few weeks in our spare room until we painted the nursery.
  • We only ordered our furniture around 23 weeks.  Not that I'm superstitous or anything but I was really hesitant prior to that point.

  • I was 22 weeks when we ordered the crib.  I was waiting for it to go on sale and i got free shipping too.  The bedding i think i ordered around the same time.  I made the wall decor to match the bedding, so i wanted it early enough to get matching fabric and sew the stuff before i got too uncomfortable. It all worked out

  • I was 14 weeks when we ordered our nursery furniture.  I had read that it can take 10-12 weeks sometimes to get your furniture and then if there are any issues with it, it will take additional time to get replacement parts, etc.  So we felt it was better to be safe and be overly prepared than scrambling later.

  • haha, we got our crib before 16 weeks. maybe too early, but i couldn't resist. the rest, not for another month or so after that.
  • Im 24 wks tomorrow and we haven't ordered ours yet. We did go and look 2 wks ago and found a couple sets we liked.

I wanted to know what mybobble baby was before we thought about bedding or furniture. I'll be making my own bedding so that was helpful.

depends on if you are getting in-stock stuff from like bru or ordering in more high end furniture. ours was estimated to take 12 weeks to arrive, so we ordered around 18 weeks.
  • We ordered our furniture when I was 22 weeks.  It takes 10-14 weeks to come in.
  • Seems early.  Are you going to find out the gender?  If so, wait until then.  I found out the gender at 20 weeks and started looking at my options then and started ordering/buying stuff around 22 weeks.  My crib is taking 8-10 weeks for delivery, so that's something to keep in mind.
  • We ordered at 28 weeks.   I didn't want to start planning anything before 25 weeks, I was a little anxious to do anything before that.

Oh, and our furniture only took 3 days to come in!

  • We ordered ours around 18 weeks because BRU had some awesome coupons for 20% off each piece in the set and we got the 10% coupon for opening a credit account. We saved a ton of money. It took every bit of 9 weeks to come in.

  • Some people ordered really early... DH and I didn't get any furniture until I was about 31 weeks because we have been too busy. We really lucked out though -- everything we have bought has been in stock in the store when we went to go get it, except our glider, which will be here in two weeks.
  • You are a bit early but i'm also the type who loves to have things done sooner rather than later.  I was 24 weeks when we ordered ours.  I had one set picked out if it was a boy and one set for a girl and at our 20 week appointment they were not 100% sure it was a girl so I waited the 4 weeks until our next appointment to find out the sex for sure before ordering.  If you have a set you want in mind i would just go to the store and ask about delivery times.  When we ordered they said it would usually take 4 weeks but ours was in stock so it might come sooner...we had it in 2.5 week!
