*5dogs*

I heard you have done extensive research on cloth diapers? I am trying to figure out how many I am going to need. Can you help out?

TIA =)

Re: *5dogs*

  • I can try my best! There are so many resources out there now for cloth diapers to even begin to get your feet wet:

    https://www.diaperpin.com for reviews, https://www.diaperswappers.com for general lurking, purchasing new & used diapers, etc, & our own Eco Friendly Board (one of the first threads I bookmarked: https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/1/14534753/ShowThread.aspx?MsdVisit=1).

    Once you begin to research, you'll see that there are a dozen different types of diapers - prefolds (flat diapers you fold up, they're a little more old school but are much more economical!), fitted, pocket, AIO, AI2, different types of covers. Jillian's Diapers has a great trial package: https://www.jilliansdrawers.com/products/clothdiapers/tryclothfor10/tryclothfor10 if you want to find out what works best for you.

    Many people rave about BumGenius AIO "one sized" diapers - they are great (but pricey) however they are not suitable for infants under 10lbs.

    Also if you have any sort of sewing skills (or know someone who does), many aspects of cloth diapering can be DIY'd. I work from home so during my slow times I will sometimes drum out cloth wipes or a cover (or cut patterns out). There are a ton of DIY resources out there, but diaperswappers's craft forum is a great place to start.

    My current small/newborn stash:
    24 premium prefolds (infant sized) from Little Lions
    12 All-Together-Deluxe "All In One" diapers (small sized, up to 15lbs)
    4 Newborn DIY pocket diapers
    5 One-size fits all DIY pocket diapers
    3 Snappis
    4 Fleece soakers
    3 fleece covers

    I will probably add a few more covers to my stash, but that is enough to wash every 2 days for us. We are doing 'sposies for the first week.

    I hope this helps (sorry for rambling!) -- let me know if you have any questions!
