i need help! i need to lose some weight before i get pg again. i can't gain baby weight on top of what i'm already carrying. i just cant. plus, i know that working out would help me feel better about myself and maybe help me get out of this funk i'm stuck in.
BUT.................
i swear i just dont know how to fit it all in!! i only have 3 more weeks until i go back to work (teacher) so we'll work with that schedule. i get up at 530 to get myself and DS ready to go. we have to be pulling out of garage at 7am. DH leaves for work at 620.
i drop E at daycare at 730, usually walking into my classroom at 745 and school starts at 8. kids are dismissd at 310. i try to leave work by 4/415 so i can pick him up no later than 430ish. on staff meeting days, i dont get him until 445/5pm. it's 25min drive home.
we get home at 5/530. he eats dinner at 530, DH gets home from work around 530. we feed Ethan and then ourselves. i have **maybe** 45mins/1hr to play with him and then it is bedtime. by the time i get him completely down, it is 745ish and i'm so freakin tired!! the thought of working out then makes me want to cry! and i'm sound asleep by 9 - ready to start again the next day!!
add to that - we just dont have any extra $$ right now for a gym membership.
so.....
#1 ~ when do i fit in some exercise? i really need to start taking care of myself
#2 ~ what kind of exercise do you do that is NOT a gym or doesn't cost $$
If you made it this far - Thanks!
Re: how/when do you workout?? (long, sorry!!)
Right there with you!
Our schedule [DH has a crazy random shedule that can't be relie don]
Wake up times vary but we have to be out of the house no later than 8am.
Drop A off at my mom's [aka daycare]
Get to work between 830 - 9am
Get off between 5-6pm
pick up A
drive 30-40min in traffic
Start Dinner [This is the worse part!]
Sometimes A gets home asleep so I let him nap late so I can work on dinner.
We eat 7ish [I iwll feed A something else before if he is awake or can't wait for our dinner], clean up, play, bath, book bed, bottle, bed, cry for 30min [new thing].
A is going to bed between 9-10pm. SOOO LATE! I hate it but we haven't been able to get him back on an early schedule. Just doesn't work for us. So tell ME when am I suppose to work out? Get up at 6am? I don't think so. I try to be in bed by midnight and I am not gettin gup at the crack of done to workout. I guess I don't want it enough.
#2 & #3 Due 8/25/12
I do the 30 day shred video as soon as I wake up while DH is getting dressed and watching E (so I don't put it off).
I'm going to start jogging at night with my neighbor tonight afte E goes to bed (7:30pm).
ETA: It only takes 30 minutes for me to get ready (10 minute shower and 20 minutes to run around the house figuring out what I'm going to wear). DH gets DS ready for the day (changes diaper and puts on a onsie, shorts and socks).
And I only work 3 days a week. Perhaps you could take a walk at lunch or just include more activity in your day-to-day schedule (lunges while vacuuming, etc)? GL!
It is tough to schedule anything in and exercise is low on the list!
I've found that if I stop on my way home I can get in some exercise. There is a lake with a paved walking path around it smack dab between my house and daycare. I walk around the laket twice at least 3x a week. It takes about 45 minutes but I feel so much better when I get home. And it's free!!!
Could you bring a snack for E and then push his dinner back a little in the evening to get a walk in?
Just like LoveTek, I have an elliptical that we keep in our bedroom. That way, I can just hop on and do a half hour right before I get into bed, after I get Leo down and do dinner for me and DH and clean up... I DVR stuff and just watch while I work out, shower, and go right to bed. May not be perfect, but at least I get something in. You can find ellipticals for pretty cheap, too. With payment plans, many come out to be cheaper than a gym - at least after the initial investment, b/c once its paid off, you always have a free workout available. I' ve been using mine for 6 years now! And I think it cost me like 200 bucks.
Also... sometimes I meet another mom and walk around the Rose Bowl, which is a 3-mile loop. We take the babies in their strollers. That way, they get some air, and we get the added bonus of pushing them which adds to the workout. Could you possibly squeeze something like this in either on the weekends or after you pick E up from daycare? So you can hang out with him AND get some exercise?
My day is pretty similar, but my DH has decided that we must start working out again -- we were pretty good before DD arrived. So we are alternating days; DH goes MWF, I go TuThSa. Here's my schedule:
By 6:30 DH and I are both awake and showered. I wake up the baby at 7:30 and we are out the door by 8:15. I work 9 to 5. Pick up DD from daycare btw 5:45 and 6. Play with her until DH arrives at 7. One of us goes to the gym, the other bathes DD. I start dinner around 8 and we eat at 8:30ish (sometime in there DD goes to bed). After that we clean up from dinner, I get bottles ready for the next day, and sometimes prep dinner for the next night. 30 minutes of downtime, cleaning, or laundry and then it's off to bed around 10. This is the best we've come up with and it is clearly less than optimal.
A couple of suggestions for you though: take a walk as your post-dinner play time, 20-30 minute walk/jog/workout video at 5am (I know it's super early, but the post-workout high will hopefully carry you), use your lunchtime for a powerwalk, build in extra time with meals that do double duty ie: grilled chicken breasts one night and Chinese chicken salad the next. HTH.
I second the TV workouts. Do you have cable? I have OnDemand exercise videos (just did one this morning) that are great because you can choose from workouts that are anywhere from 20 min to 1 hour.
We also take an evening walk together at 5:30 each evening. On the days that I don't do an exercise video, I go for a run. Running is cheap, all you need is a pair of running shoes!
Could you let your DH watch your LO for 30 mins or so a few times a week at 5:30 before you eat dinner so you can exercise? I know its hard to give up precious time with your baby, but a happy and healthy you really will make for a happier family!
thanks for the suggestions. i really appreciate it. i'm going to make something work, i just have to. but lunchtime is not an option. anyone who is a teacher understands! i have a 20min lunch period. after i drop off my kids at the lunchroom and make it to the the teachers lounge (my room is even further away!!) i have about 17min to go pee and eat my food. not ideal for sure.
i think i'm going to try the morning workout. DH gets up at 5. i can get up with him and workout while he showers. then hop in the shower at 530ish.
i really just have to make this work. i am not happy with myself right now
