continuous BCPs???

does anyone take the continuous pill?  where you only get AF every 3months or something like that?

my OB is switching me to this one (not sure what brand, have to go pick it up today).  just wondering if you had a lot of breakthrough bleeding or any other side effects.  aso, how many active pill weeks do you have before you have the inactive week?

thanks

Re: continuous BCPs???

  • I was on Seasonale for 5 or 6 years.  Personally I LOVED it, though I've heard other people have not been happy with it.

I would have some spotting, typically around the time my period would normally show up.  It was more when I first went on it.  After a year or so on it I barely spotted at all unless I missed a pill.  It was a period every 3 months, so I think I had 11 weeks of active pills and then 1 inactive week.

  • I was actually one of the "test" cases for the continuous BCP due to my endometriosis. They had me on normal BCP, but I would just skip the inactive pills and just take "breaks" every 4 months or so. I was never on Seasonale, but it is essentially the same thing.

Like Rowan, I think I spotted a bit in the beginning, but after awhile I never got anything even resembling a period unless I took a break from the pills. I loved it - but I also just used whatever pill I wanted to at the time - the last one I was on was Yasmin, b/c I am sensitive to hormones in certain brands. So I don't know much about Seasonale, if that is what you are talking about. Still, it is definitely great to not get a period every month!!
