High-Risk Pregnancy

Any references for Husbands?

My husband is CLUELESS about everything.  He was clueless about babies in general, but now with my high BP and the possibility of having to go on bedrest, have an induction, possibly have a preemie, he is even more clueless!

He keep saying to me "Everything is going to be fine.  Your BP levels will probably just drop at the next appoitnment.  You will make it to 40 weeks.  No need to worry."

Last night he read something about giving the baby steriods to boost the lung capacity and I was so excited that he actually read SOMETHING.

Anyone have any good references for husbands?  I would love some support and realism from his side!

Re: Any references for Husbands?

  • Everything moved so quick with my last pregnancy that both DH and I were clueless about pre-e in general. It was actually a little refreshing that he was so naive and would always say everything is going to be ok, even though it was not.....

After I got out of the hospital we both started to learn a lot. I also learned how traumatizing our pregnancy/emergency c/s was for him. Since then he has learned the msot from going with me to dr. visits and me passing on info that I learn.... but there is a whole section for dads on preeclampsia.org

I think it is great that you are thinking of your hubby. I was a little blind to how much it effected my husband when I was in the hospital and he was slowly learning about pre-e. It was well after my pregnancy that my husband opened up about how scared and lonely he was.

Since learning more, it has made this pregnancy a little easier cause honestly I think we both expect something to go wrong.... he is very supportive of bed rest and always tells me and others that he has it easy (taking care of a 16 mo old, keeping up with the house and running his business) and I have the important and hard job right now (bed rest).

Be patient, it is a lot to take in and I think it is our husband's natural reaction to tell us everything will be ok. Hang in there!

DH just went to Daddy Boot Camp this past weekend and loved it.  They offered it through our hospital.  We found out about it when we were trying to enroll in childbirth class (I don't need this, he does, as he is clueless about labor and delivery).  Well, childbirth class was full, but this wasn't.  They sent him home with a bunch of stuff.  Inside the book they gave him, which I keep peeking at, is a website.

    www.dadsadventure.com

It has tons of info on pregnancy, baby, and mom.  It may not have all the info on high risk stuff, but it will at least get him started.

  • I don't have any suggestions for you...but could have written this post.  In fact as I read it aloud to my husband  who read the quotes of your husband for me.  He then said did you take your bp for tonight yet.  When what he meant was hurry up and take yours so I can take mine and show you how perfect it is. :)

    Good luck! :)

Hahaha... my hubby takes his BP after me too.  He says "I just want to make sure the monitor is reading right".... yea, OK.
