  • Holy Crap!!!! They've been watching me since 17 weeks. My BP averages about 145/95 but has been up to 167/100 at the Dr's office and they started me on 50mg twice a day. Now I'm up to 100 mg twice a day. 1200mg???? Holy crap!!!!

  • Oh you're totally freaking me out!  I started out at 16 weeks with BP 150/100 so they put me on 400mg/day.  Then around 30 weeks my BP rocketed again so they put me on 800mg/day.  Now in the last couple of weeks it's been outrageous - 167/114 so they just put me at 1200mg.

But my thought is why not try some sort of bed rest or something to help?  Is my doctor a drug pusher?  Lol.

  • Patients with hypertension that is really bad (like yours is getting at 160's/100's) can get doses up to 2400mg/day.  At least this is with our patients we see in the intensive care unit.  So 1200mg/day isn't too far fetched, but I would definetly ask your OB about bedrest.

I have PIH and my numbers can be high (130's/70's) if I don't lay down enough during the day.....as soon as I lay on my left side for even 5 minutes my blood pressure drops down to my normal (90's/45).

I think that bedrest could absolutely help you and you may be able to come down to a more "normal" dose of beta blockers.  It doesn't make sense to me to keep increasing your dose instead of trying other things first.

    Good luck!

  • When I was on it for Pre-E I only took 100mg twice a day. Once I had DS the Pre-E got really bad but the highest dose I was on was 400mg twice a day, plus a dose of procardia. I am finally down to 100mg twice a day and the procardia. Your dose SEEMS like a lot to me, but if the docs are ok with it I say whatever it takes to keep that baby cooking longer as long as your labs look ok too!
