High-Risk Pregnancy

Low Lying Placenta

Hi Ladies, Im just about 12 weeks, and over this last weekend i had some bleeding. ?I went to the hospital and they told me my placenta is really low and close to the cervix. ?My family dr, has put me on strict orders not to do anything: cleaning, walking, shopping etc. ?There is a chance as the baby grows the placenta can move away from the opening. ?Has anyone else had this experience? ?This is my first pregnancy and im worried i will have to be on bed rest for the next 6 months:(

?

Thanks,

Michelle?

Re: Low Lying Placenta

  • first - i know a ton of people that had low lying placentas and they all had full-term, vaginal deliveries. i believe the chances of a low lying placenta moving away from the cervix are really good. even if it's diagnosed as late as 20w. so the fact that you're at 12w is great!

i, however, had a previa (diagnosed at 20w u/s) and had some bleeding at 22w, 30w, 32w, and finally at 32w6d when we delivered DS. the first 2 incidents were literally a drop or so. the 3rd incident was like a period, and the 4th incident was heavy (and we delivered).

there's a very good chance it will resolve, however, take your dr's orders to heart! after the diagnosis, i was put on pelvic rest (lift nothing over 15lbs, no sex, no orgasm, no exercise). i was on and off bedrest after the other incidents until i ended up on hospital bedrest at 32w5d (the placenta looked like it had moved but i was still having bleeding).

good luck and i'll send positive thoughts your way!! congrats on your pregnancy!

  • Hi

I am 25 weeks 3 days and have been on bed rest for two weeks for a complete placenta previa. I have light spotting 2x so they took me out of work. I would be happy to chat with you more about it if you would like. Mine will not move but chances are yours will if it was found at 12 weeks. I am sending positive thoughts as well. I have been told that i will have a c section early because they can not risk me going into labor .

  • I found out I had placenta previa at 8 weeks. I was in bed rest the first trimester due to some bleeding. I never had any other issues with bleeding so I was just in modified bed rest. They did a lot of ultrasounds but my placenta never moved so I'm scheduled for a csection this week so I won't go into labor on my own. My OB said that about 90% of placenta resolve themselves. So just take it easy and follow all the restrictions. Best of luck
