My DS is a big boy- almost 18lbs at 3 months old. We have a Chicco Keyfit carseat which only allows up to 22lbs. Since my DS is not supporting his head yet, what do we do as far as upgrading his seat? TIA
we switched ds to a convertible car seat at 5 months even though we were no where near outgrowing the infant seat. there isn't a rul...convertible seats can be used with infants.

The height matters more than the weight. I have the same seat. My DS is 4 months and probably about 18 pounds. He will be out of it height wise I think before he is out of it weight wise. You can use most convertables from 5 pounds. I used a roundabout for DD in DH's car from day one.
The Graco MyRide is a new seat that just came out - it's rearfacing until 40lbs, then forward facing to 65lbs. It's got great ratings and is very well priced. It comes in different colors too.
Re: What's the rule about switching carseats?
You still have 4lb to go before he's over the limit; that's a good two months IMO. Convertible seats can be used (RF!) for babies as little as 5lb.
