summer travels - sans high chair...

DD is almost 9 months old, and pretty much needs to be in a high chair to eat.  On our last trip to Houston, I brought the Bumbo and tray- but I needed a "feeding assistant" to hold the base down while I fed her.  So she's too big for that anymore. We've used a walker with a tray recently, but she had too much freedom with her torso and she was too distracted, so it was hard to chase her down for each bite.  She really needs to have her shoulders/chest restrained to make an efficient feeding session.

I'd love to practice feeding her w/o a high chair since that is probably how we'll have to do things on our trip (even once we are at our destination) but I don't want her to get used to that and then refuse her high chair.  Maybe I should just try one meal a day to see how she does?

Any advice/suggestions/creative solutions?

Re: summer travels - sans high chair...

  • I got a high chair from IKEA.  It was only $15.99 and it is small and assembles and disassemble in seconds.  The seat part is about the size of a bumbo(probably smaller) so it wouldnt take up much rm on your car.  The legs snap on and off real easy, and that all you need to do to assemble it.  They sell a tray to go with it for only $5 extra, which is also small and would be easy to pack.

  • we have a little travel booster/highchair seat that works well too. You have to watch them when they are younger but works out well for travel.  Ours was from like Target or something and cost around $12
  • We use a booster seat when we travel with DD.  It straps to a chair and then you scoot it up to the table - of course you will need to strap in DC, too.  I bought it off Craigslist for $8 and it was wonderful!! It's similar to this.

A friend of mine has one of those travel highchairs that collapses and fits into a bag.  Like this one.

  • We have the healthy care booster that I used to take to GTGs, church dinners and sometimes on travel.  I ended up buying a second one to leave at my parents' house so I wouldn't have to fly with it.
  • we use a hook on chair similar to these two

you can take off the arms or leave them on and it folds down flat. easy to travel with and it stays in out car and we use it at almost all of the restaurants around town too.
