DH helping during the night..

Since I'm still on maternity leave, I've been doing all of the weekly night time feedings since DH is back at work.  But I go back to work in 3 weeks and I'm wondering how best to split the night time duties.  As of right now Parker is getting up 2 times a night to eat and usually goes back to sleep within 20 minutes or so of eating.  So DH and I could either each do one feeding a night or we could do every other night.  I can see where there would be benefits to doing it both ways, so I'm curious to see what you other working moms have done about sharing the night time duties??

Re: DH helping during the night..

  • i do the nights dh works and he does the nights he has off- when i go back we will split it 50/50- but he likes to help so it wasn't hard to come to that decision.

  • We did every other night when i went back to work. She was 2 1/2 months and down to one feeding. But it was still split because she woke at 2 for a paci, and 4 to eat. one person did the paci wake, and one person did the feeding.

So you mean the nights you split 50/50...you will get up once and he will get up once. (Assuming your LO gets up twice) Or will you be the one to get up on Monday and then he'll take care of Tuesday??

  • I'm still on mat leave and now LO STTN. But when LO was still getting up at night, I would wake up and change/feed him. Then if I couldn't get him back down shortly thereafter, DH would get up and rock LO back to sleep. DS had bad gas when he was little so sometimes it took a while to get him down.  DH was still working at the time.

  • sorry, i meant i'll be on baby duty one night and he'll be on duty the next.
  • I nurse, but every time DD wakes up at night, DH gets up to get her and calm her while I wake up and use the bathroom and then I take over and nurse.
