Do you think something is wrong??

EMTEMT member

My friend's water broke at 1am.  She got her epi around 10 am.  I talked to her around  noon and she said she was progressing and resting.  It's now 7:35 PM.  I know she would have texted if she had the baby and all was well.  My labor's were both about 12 hours beginning to end so I am just wondering if it is possible she is still in labor and all is going well?

I'm dying to call or text but I don't want to be a PITA.  My mom wanted us to go over there.  Um, NO!

  • Is it her first?  My labor w/Ian was 24 hrs from my first contraction to birth...so it is possible!  I guess it's possible with subsquent births too...though not in my experience.  6 hrs the second time!

  • I was in labor for 30+ hours, and everything was fine - sometime it just takes a long time.

would i be a total PITA if i texted her??
  • Yeah, it sounds normal to me... not ideal, but normal. I hope she has already given birth and just hasn't been able to text yet!

No way - I would totally do it!

  • Id give her 24 hours from when her water broke. ?And if I were in labor that long, I think I would have loved to have a text from a friend, even if it was just a, "THinking about you!"text
  • It is totally possible that she is still in labor and everything is ok.  It just might be slow.
  • If it is her first labour could take a while (I was about 28 hours my first time), also they may be enjoying a little family bonding time.  When DS was born DH and I talked about the name and cuddled with our son, and suddenly realized that he was over an hour old and we hadn't called our parents!!

Give them space, they will call when they are ready.

alright I texted her.  I just wonder because she said she had the epi at 10...I just would have thought it would be faster!
  • I got my first serious contractions at 6 am Sunday morning and didn't give birth until 10:30 Monday night (and they had to use a vacuum), so yeah, it could take a while.

I say go ahead and text. If she doesn't want to be bothered, she wouldn't have her phone nearby anyway I think.
