Ebay--is it wrong

To have a friend "up" your bid a bit? Have you ever done it? I'm considering it for my gymboree prep school line that is going to sell for like 10 dollars and has several pieces in it (3 shirts, jeans, tights, dress, shoes, hairbows)

Re: Ebay--is it wrong

  • I thought that was illegal on ebay?
  • Is it? Didn't know that. I get that it's kinda wrong, but at the same time...doesn't seem like a huge deal. I should have set a reserve :( DH convinced me that things don't sell as well with a reserve.

  • Yes it's wrong, it's also against ebay rules, but unfortunately it is done everyday on ebay.
  • Your husband is right about a reserve turning people off, so it's best just to have the starting bid start at the lowest price you'd be willing to take for the item.
  • Oh, well. I had this happen a few months back and the lady turned around and sold them in her ebay store for more money! I'd rather give them away than have someone pay $10 for them, you know? I'll know better for next time.
  • People do it all the time!

I was trying to buy something 2 different times and I know those bastards were doing that. Both people re-listed when  the auction was over and I didn't higher my bid.

I don't sell on eBay anymore. It is a PIA and while my gmybo stuff sold (tennis match and very cherry) I didn't make nearly what I made last year!

FYI GHM they are getting it for too cheap and I would be pissy about it too.. Like the douche bag that got a sold out J&J dress from me for $10.00 and then like 10 minutes later someone emailed me and asked if I would sell it to them for $45. ...GAH..

  • Yup, it's ebay illegal.

My Gymbo does terribly on ebay. I think it's b/c you can get it for so cheap in the stores now, that the resale value has plummeted, unless you have a hard to find piece.

It also doesn't help that the outlet stores remake the same lines from the year before.

  • That sucks. I know it's their way to make money, but it still sucks (for me and you and other people it happens to). Obviously these people know the key to selling better on Ebay!

Where do you sell your stuff? I don't sell stuff often, and have pretty much failed each time.

  • Yes, it is def WRONG! You wouldn't want someone doing that to you. I think it is more ethics and I couldn't sleep at night thinking that I did that to someone else. KWIM?
  • very wrong. That's the chance you take when you sell on ebay, it could go for $1 and you have to hold up your end of the bargain just as you'd expect a buyer to. I know it sucks but you should have a reserve if you don't want to go under a certain amount.
