Babies: 0 - 3 Months

What things do you do with your 3-5 month old?

L.O. is almost 4 months and wants to be entertained CONSTANTLY. I need some new ideas for him.

 Currently, I:

sing songs to him/listen to music

dance around the house with him

read board books with him

do tummy time with toys

take him on walks in the stroller

point to different parts of his face and then point to that part of his face (he loves this)

talk to him

sometimes wear him in the Baby Bjorn while I do errands

But I feel like I run out of ideas halfway through the day. Any tips?

Thanks!

  • we do the same stuff with DD (she is almost 3 mo) she's not into the whole book thing right now though, she cries when i get them out. I dance with her, sing to her, talk to her, tummy time and do bicycles with her legs i make her dance etc. she hates her car seat and stroller so we don't get that many walks in and is against the moby right now since she wants to see everything but isn't quite there for great had control for me to have her facing out yet (almost though)

  • We watch our dogs run around, play on her play mat, watch baby stuff (like einstein or the noggin channel), sit outside in the shade (we used to go for walks, but it's highs in the 100s here, so we just can't do that anymore) and talk about the trees, birds, sounds of outside.

It's hard to keep them entertained!!

  • I just do a lot of sensory games, like pulling her arms up to touch her head, messing with her feet ("this little piggy"), having her grab toys with one or both hands, moving a favorite toy away so that she rolls to get it.  I alternate sides with everything.

Stroller walks are also a favorite.  She also likes to lie and talk with me.  DD loves the jumparoo for 15-20 minutes at a time when she's really active, but just about everything we do only lasts around 15 minutes.  I have to constantly rotate activities.

At least we're getting a lot of exercise!

  • you are already doing a lot, not much else you can do. We do most of that. She has this playmat that she lays on her back and looks up at the toys that will entertain her for quite a while. I sit on the couch above her when she's laying down and tap on a drinking glass (holding it above her.) Don't ask me why but she gets the biggest kick out of it and we do it for a good 30 minutes. Other than that, we move from bouncer, to couch, to sitting up, stroller, etc. all day. It's a lot of work!
  • Thanks ladies. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who finds this challenging!

  • What all the PP's said, basically. She's currently obsessed w/ the Jumperoo and being pulled up to standing. She likes songs with hand movements and is OBSESSED with playing fetch with our dog (she laughs hysterically when she runs to us with the ball). We also put her in the infant swing in our yard or swing with her on our lap on a playground nearby.

DD is finally (in the last few weeks) getting better at playing on her own. She'll do 15-20 minutes on her playmat or in the exersaucer without my having to be right next to her now. Tradeoff - she hates the stroller so our daily walks have been significantly reduced...It'll get better!
