first story time experience

I took the girls to the library for story time and songs.  Wow was I overwhelmed, I felt like all the other moms were staring at me.  It is so hard to try and have both of them sit down on your lap or next to you.  All they wanted to do was crawl around on the floor.  There were other 1 year olds who were imitating some of the songs and my girls could care less.  What are some things that I should be teaching them and how do you go about it.

Re: first story time experience

  • I don't have any advice for you because I haven't done storytime yet. I've been wanting to try it for a while now, but I'm not brave enough. Both of my babies are really good...we take them everywhere....but when we go out, they are usually contained, either in the stroller or highchairs usually. Once I put them on the floor, they will want to go all over the place. And I can just imagine all of the disapproving stares I would get from all the other moms =/

Were other babies crawling all over the place too? I would imagine/HOPE that everyone who goes to storytime with children that young expect them to be all over the place?? Maybe I'll muster up the courage one of these days to try it out =/

  • My only librray expereince is from taking my older DDs, but I can tell you that it's totally normal for them to care less the first few times they go, especially at that age.  Just keep taking them and they will learn the songs and the movements in no time - you'll be amazed.  And, they'll learn to sit still eventually.   As for the other moms, they were probably just jealous of your cute twins :)  Also, in my experience, some libraries have better storytimes than others - maybe another one on your area is a little more young toddler friendly?  Worth asking other MoMs in your area about, maybe.  Good luck!
