8 week old wakes up after 20 minutes unless being held

I have read all the sleep books and don't know what to do.  LO wakes up from naps after 20 minutes unless he is being held or in the moby.  I tried today for an hour to do the sleepy, but awake while patting him in his crib (even tried giving him a pacifier- which I only use in the car) during this, but he would start to fall asleep and wake himself up, then we would start all over again, until I gave up after an hour and rocked him back to sleep, because it was going to screw up his nap/eating more than one hour delay already did.  At night he sleeps for one solid 5-6 hour stretch before waking up for a feeding.  Any suggestions would help!!

  • this sounds exactly like my LO.  Do you swaddle?  I find that putting her in the swing helps to keep her soothed and asleep, at least for a little bit.

  • I had this problem too for a few weeks, and according to my home daycare provider he doesn't do this anymore and takes nice longs naps during the day. (Must admit I'm jealous that I didn't get these while I was on mat leave)

Is this something new or has he always done this? I have read that baby's go through lots of different phases, hopefully this is just one!

    GL!?

  • Were going through the exact same thing... She sleeps really good through the night, just like your LO 4-5 hour stretches.  But during the day, the longest she'll sleep is an hour.  I wouldn't mind keeping her awake but the thing is, is that she fusses cause she's tired which leads me to rocking her to sleep.  Like another poster said, it's like my whole day is spent rocking her to sleep.

I'm sorry I have no advice, just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

I agree with pp- swaddling helps him stay asleep.
  • We had this problem too!  I started swaddling him and closing the shades in his room, trying to get it as dark as possible.  I hope it is just a stage!
