We picked it because we love it, thought it was unique without being weird, and it is an interesting mixture of DH's and my (Russianized) name.

I got an email from babycenter about most popular names from around the world. Check out the #2 name for Ukraine (where DH is actually from).

I'm thrilled that we're paying homage to DH's "motherland" and didn't even know it!

(PS--thank GOD we're not having a boy and trying to do the same thing. I even speak the language and I can't really wrap my tongue around some of those boy names. Yikes!!)
