Car seats: What did you do?

What did you do?  Is your toddler in a "big kid" carseat yet?  (Like, one that's FF and will convert into a booster eventually?)

DS will be 16 months when the baby comes.  We never had a travel system or infant seat with DS, we just used a rear-facing convertible seat from the beginning.  Now we are trying to decide if we should move him up and put the baby in his seat, or if we should get an infant seat to buy him a few more months in the Roundabout.

Or if we should just buy a second Roundabout for the new baby and keep them both in there until they reach the maximum weight.

  • DS is in a roundabout.  New baby will be in an infant carrier.  Then eventually baby will move into the roundabout and DS will move into some type of booster....I guess.

This, but we have the Marathon. DS will move into the Graco Nautilus when the new baby is ready to move into the convertible. DS moved early at 4 months b/c he loathed his infant seat.

  • We had a travel system with infant seat for DS. Now he's in a convertible and is RF until he reaches the weight limit, then we will turn him around. New baby will be in DS old infant seat.

  • I would recommend an infant carrier for #2.

Holding the toddler's hand and carrying the baby in your arms to get in and out of places might have you juggling a bit too much.

An infant carrier might help make the baby more portable.

It was much faster for me to toss the infant carrier into the base and quickly snap it in with one hand while holding the toddler's hand than it would have been to have to mind where the toddler was while trying to strap the baby into the car with both hands.

    Did that make any sense?

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • LO #2 will be in the infant seat for the first few months.  But, DS is in a Decathlon so it is good up to 65 lbs.  He will likely grow out of the height before the weight at which time he might be ready for a simple booster; we'll see.  We'll probably get another for LO#2 when the time is right since they can stay in them so much longer.

We had an infant seat for Kermie, which we kept once we moved him to the Roundabout. ?Fozzie will use that. ?Once Fozzie outgrows the infant seat, we will move him to the Roundabout and get a new seat that converts to a booster for Kermie. ?Likely the Graco Nautilus.
