If you have 2 girls or 2 boys

How did you decide who would have which name.  We still don't know the sexes, but if you're having same sex twins (or anyone with triplets), if you decide on the names before hand, how do you decide.

Re: If you have 2 girls or 2 boys

  • With both of our sets of twins we have our first choice and second choice name.  Whoever is born first will get the first name and the second will get the other.  Doesn't really matter to us which is which until after they are born.  Then we just want to make sure that we don't get them mixed up. LOL.  When we brought my boys home from the hospital we had decided to leave their bracelets on until we were sure we could tell them apart. HOwever, my younger brother cut them off without know this and brought them to me when the boys were napping.  I almost had a panic attack. Thankfully he hadn't moved them and we ended up painting on of the boys toes pink so that I could be sure we knew who was whom.

  • We named ours when we found out the sexes.. We knew that we wanted one to be Isabella so we named A Isabella. With B we did'nt have a name until I was 6 months. Luckily fir us we always knew who was who!!

  • we didn't know what we were having, but we knew they were all the same. so we just had lists of girl and boy names, and when they were born (but before we could see them) we picked three of the boys names we liked the best, and assigned them based on their pictures and their "in utero" personalities.

as it happened, we named them wrong - ABC in utero were not ABC on the outside. whoops! :)

  • We officially decided on names when I was admitted to the hospital at 21.5 weeks...we knew we wanted Sydney, but the 2nd name was up for grabs....for some reason we decided that Baby B would be Sydney, but our escape artist (Baby A w ho caused all our issues) had no name, so for a couple days I 'tried' out names while I was there....about 2 days later we officially decided on Olivia. WHen they were born we made big deal to my MFM that they had to come out the way the were in utero (meaning A needed to come out first b/c she was Olivia and B second b/c she was Sydney)....so he made sure we didn't have any mix ups....we had friends that had this happen...when they were born A became B and B became A...so their names were not the same on the outside as on the inside..not normally an issue but one of their babies was WAY smaller due to TTTS and his name now is different than when he was inutero.

  • We are going to take a look at them first.

  • since Gibson and Grayson are so similar - and don't really make us think of a child that looks one way or another- we just went with Grayson being baby A and Gibson being baby B - b/c of the 3rd letter in each name.

if the names were more different we might have waited to see them and then decide.

  • We named ours in utero.  A was Jonathan and B was Matthew.  My SIL and BIL did the same.  They named their girls before they were born.
  • Our pedi said "here comes twin A, what's his name?" and we said DANIEL!  and then the same for twin B....WILLIAM!  They had their names before we officially met them!

  • We always knew that Baby A would be Sophie.  She was very active and we just like the name Sophie for her.  We didn't decide on Baby B's name for the longest time.  We kept going back and forth between Sarah, Emma and Hannah.  We decided on Hannah at like 30 weeks.  We made sure the doctor told us who was Baby A and who was Baby B so we could get their name right:)
  • DH and I have questioned this too...what we decided was to wait until they are born....with the 3D we were able to see one's face clearly (spitting image of my DH!!) but our other girl is a shy one and put BOTH hands in front of her face....I was hoping once I had seen their faces that I'd "know" which name to use for each...BUT, since we can't make out both faces yet, we are just going to wait till they arrive and then hopefully name them.

When do you find out your sexes? Are you and DH going to have it be a surprise???

I'm going to try to schedule it for NEXT Monday.  We really wanted to find out on Friday but the tech was all booked up.  I figured I'd schedule it, then I could always call on Thursday and see if she had any cancellations.

  • We have 2 boys.  I didn't know who was who going in to labor (I was only 30 weeks) and in the OR the NICU doctor wanted to know which was which.  I said I didn't know I needed to see them.  Well I saw each one for about 2 seconds before they were whisked away.  Then he wanted to know who was who and I said that wasn't really what I meant and would need more time.  Well I was on mag sulf. for 24 hours and didn't get to see the boys for 39 hours because I was so sick.  The NICU kept bugging DH about figuring out who was who so in the end I told him just to pick.  He said no way he didn't want to get in trouble (with me) later down the road.  I got irritated (in my hospital room) and said fine A is Joey and B is Nathan. That's how they got their names.

  • We thought we'd name Baby A Cordelia and Baby B Eleanor unless something happened after they were born that made us decide otherwise, like one of them just really LOOKED like an Eleanor or something. ?But when they came out, we still thought the names just went with them and their in utero personalities, so we stuck with those. ?It was kind of a random decision, though. ?
  • We had settled on Max from the beginning and for whatever reason, he just became baby A.  Baby B (Luke) wasn't totally agreed upon until he arrived.
  • We haven't assigned them their names yet because we aren't completely set on the second name. We know one is Mason and we think the other is Wyatt. But I go back and forth between Wyatt and Holden...like every other day! So we have decided that whoever comes out first will be Mason and hopefully by then we can make a decision on the second name.

  • we didn;t find out the sexes before they were born, but had pretty much determined that if we had two girls we would go with Milina for baby a and AVa for baby b...after they were born we waited to decide if the names fit each of them before making it official...
  • We didn't say for sure who was who until they were born.  But I told DH when we went to the hospital for observation (ended up in delivery) that Baby B which first head down was Lillian and Katelyn was breech/ all over the place.  They were not offically named in the Special Care until I got to see them the next day though DH had told the nurses their names.
  • We had a boy name (James) and girl name (Hannah) picked out before we found out it was twins.  After we learned it was twins, we didn't discuss names again until we found out their genders.  The night we found out they were both boys we gave Baby A the boy name we picked out before -James (a family name) and we just came up with Connor that night and named Baby B.

I was concerned that we would get their names wrong when they came out but Baby A didn't stop moving in utero and that is exactly how is is out here!  So there is no mistaking them.

  • Our names just happened to start with an A and a B, so it made it easy :-) We didn't do that on purpose, but it worked out well!
  • We waiting until the babies were born to see which name "fit" which baby.  I'm glad we did.  The one I would have named Benjamin is totally an Eli.  They definitely got the right names by waiting.
  • we didnt' even finalize the names until i was on the table getting my csection and then we just said - the first one is Evan and the second, Brandon.  I didn't get to  see them before they were whisked away to the NICU but i wanted them to have names!

  • I always knew I would have a Jack so as soon as the tech said that baby A was a boy he was Jack... and I was sure that I was having a boy and a girl or two girls so we had two girls names picked out and just Jack as a boys name so DH got to pick the second name when we found out we were having two boys.  And once he picked Keaghan that became baby Bs name. Thankfully the names fit.
