Pet microchips?

Does your pet have a microchip?  We have had a cat "living" on our front porch for about a month.  I finally decided that if it was going to stay, I wanted to get it vaccinated and make sure it had flea/worm prevention.  I don't want a cat.  I am very allergic, but the human society here is over run, so it is unlikely it would get adopted, since it isn't a kitten.

Anyway, I took it to the vet and it was microchiped.  They kept the cat and are going to try to get in touch with the people through the microchip info.  We thought the cat had been dumped (and it still might have been), since the woods behind our house is a common dumping ground.

I was just wondering if your pet is microchiped, and if so, do you keep the information up to date?

Re: Pet microchips?

  • Usually the microchip traces back to the animal's vet.  At least it does in our case.  So they would probably be able to track the owner down even if they had not updated an address or phone number, etc.
  • yes she microchipped, yes the info is current.

  • We do have our dog microchipped, but I have no idea if DH ever updated any info.

  • Yes and yes.  I would be devastated to lose my dog so of course I keep her chip current.
  • Yes, our dog & cat are microchipped.  The info on the chip links them to our vet, so the vet would contact us if someone turned them in.
