This is the question I got on the phone today from the Peri (follow-up to my NT scan on Tues). Um, yeah, they told me I had a corpus luteum cyst that should be going away. They told me a few weeks ago. It was pretty small.
Peri chuckled and said, "well, this one is almost 4 inches wide - you're not feeling any pain??"
Okay - so I get it. I have a big cyst. They say it will start to hurt as my belly grows - and if it bursts I will know immediately (it is fluid filled). They said they can remove it laproscopically with no risk to the babies but I am hesitant to do this. ARGH!!
No idea what to do but now that I think about it - that might account for the sharp pain on that side that I thought was ligament pain. Eek.
Re: "Did you know you have a huge cyst?"
that sucks!
I would have it removed.... if it grows a lot more and were to ruputre you could get pretty sick. My sister had a HUGE ovarian cyst - the size of a basketball - went undetected for years and years..... docs said she was lucky it never burst- it would have killed her if it did b/c it's filled with poisons. Granted- hers was huge- but a smaller one of decent size could still make you sick if ruptured. I would trust the peri re: surgery to remove. I had kidney stone surgery while pregnant- no risk to baby- all was fine.
I went to the ER 3 weeks ago because I thought I was dieing. They did an ultrasound and I, too, have a huge cyst. It measured 6.5 x 5.5 at the hospital. My peri explained all the things you just cited and I was freaked out just as you are. The good news is, there's a good chance it will decrease on its own. 2 weeks after my ER visit, mine had decreased by 1/2 its size and is now about 3.5.
My peri said that the ONLY way she would even consider operating would be if it grew to be 10-12. I wouldn't panic just yet......it may very well go down, but YES - that is exactly what's causing the pain in your side. I wouldn't rush surgery. A lot of the women I've spoken with said that they never did get any major pain because the cyst decreased and increased now and then.
wow!
my ovaries were the size of baseballs in the early part of my pregnancy, but fortunately it wasn't a big dea and they never caused me any pain. i hope yours don't either!
