2nd Trimester

Complete Ultrasound ???

Has anyone had a complete ultrasound done? I am 16 weeks, and my OBGYN gave me paperwork to go down to the hospital to have it done... i already had the 16 wk bloodwork done, but scared that something may be wrong. Of course the dr says everything is fine, it's routine... but i've never had this "complete ultrasound" done with previous children... can anyone help?

Re: Complete Ultrasound ???

  • A complete ultrasound to me sounds to me like what we refer to as the "big" U/S - check anatomy, measure the limbs, head, stomach, etc.
  • Loading the player...
  • They probably just mean the full anatomy scan where they take all the measurements and make sure baby looks okay. Do they want you to have it done now or schedule it in a couple weeks? I had mine at 18weeks

  •  I was in the office on 7/3/09 and she said to schedule in a week or two to get an accurate reading... so i am scheduled for 7/16/09... the hospital said it would take about 1 hour, i was just freaking out that something was wrong and the dr didnt tell me...lol.. thats me overly paranoid. :)
  • The 'big' u/s is standard for everyone. It is typically performed between 18-22 weeks.  Of course, if you don't want it done, it is always your right to refuse it.
  • Timing is right for it to be an anatomy scan...where they look at everything in detail.  Maybe your doc just calls it Complete and it doesn't mean anything different at all.  If you are concerned, just call the office and ask the receptionist or nurse what a "complete" u/s is.
