Hi everyone,
I just got back from our 18 week u/s and was told there is a choroid plexus cyst (CPC) on one side of our baby's brain. She told us that 99% of the time it is nothing, but it can be an soft marker of Trisomy 18. She also reassured us that the big group practice she works at has never had a baby with CPC's born with an abnormality like Down's.
I am trying not to freak out. There were no other markers, heart, kidneys, bone length all looked great and were in normal range. Has anyone had any experience with these cysts? I am going for a Level II U/S next week with a specialist and she said the cyst could even be gone by then.
She kept saying not to worry, that it's not that uncommon; but it's pretty hard to do when it's your baby ![]()
Re: Back from 18 week U/S, Cyst on Brain

Oh no! I'm sorry you are going through this and no matter how many times you hear "dont worry about it"- it's hard not to when it's your LO.
I dont have any experience or advice but good luck and hopefully the issue will resolve itself.
See? This is why I have a love/hate relationship with U/Ss. I was told ours has too much fluid in his kidneys and it "most likely will clear up on its own" or it could be a soft marker of Downs. But he has zero markers for Downs aside from this, so they are telling me not to worry. Then, why tell me?
I hope your LO is just fine. These little things are probably Mother Nature's way of telling us to stop trying to find out so much about our unborn children and just let her take it from here! lol?
GL, dear.?
Thank you all for the support and for what you have heard about CPCs. Now I have to find a way to quit thinking about this until my level II ultrasound.
I agree with you SmallandNeedy, definitely a love/hate relationship with all of this new technology! The Dr did say that we could have had CPC's and never knew it because there were no ultrasounds back then...
Thanks guys for the hugs and support, it means a lot to me!
I'm sorry you have this new worry.
I have more than one friend who have had this diagnosis at their big u/s. Each time it resolves itself as the pregnancy goes on.
I know it's scary to think something might be wrong with your perfect little one. Try to keep strong thoughts!
The doctor found the same thing on my friend's 20 or so week u/s. A later u/s showed that it went away. Her daughter is now a perfectly healthy three year old. Good luck!
