3d ultrasound? Trying to decide if I want one

I am trying to decide if the 3d ultrasound is worth the $. My insurance doesn't cover it so that will be about $100 out of my pocket & I know I could probably use that money elsewhere. Just wondering from you ladies that had one done-was it worth it? & for those of you who aren't having one-do you regret/ wish you did?

  • We didn't have one with DS and don't plan on it with DD.  I don't really see the point to them and have never regretted not getting one.  You are going to see the baby in a matter of months anyway, why not just wait for th real thing?

  • it was the best money we have spent yet. ?absolutely amazing.
  • I personally loved mine, even though it was 18 weeks and baby was still alien-like. I say get one if you can afford it! I'm lucky that I get one at every appointment for some reason, but if I wasn't so lucky I would definitely search one out on my own.

  • We did it with DS. It was a lot of fun. It is definitely not necessary if you need the $ elsewhere though :)

  • We will not be having a 3d u/s.  I think if we were unable to find out the sex of our baby then we would have done the gender assesment which costs 100.00 for 5 min.  Really expensive, I think!

I'm really excited to meet our little girl and I think the surprise for us will be whose features the baby has.  I'm looking forward to that.  Plus the cost is also too much for me.  I would rather spend that on baby cloths:)

  • I'm getting one, I think they are amazing.  Not as just a chance to see my baby (though there's that too), but to see my baby developing in the womb.  My husband is fascinated by them.

It's also an opportunity for our families to see an ultrasound, since they can't come to the others.  When our parents had us people didn't get ultrasounds at all, so this new technology is unbelievable to them.

  • I am getting one around 27 weeks.  We had a bad experience with the lady that did our anatomy scan, she was very unfriendly and gave us two pictures of the baby (an arm and the feet).  Needless to say we were disappointed with the whole experience.

We have to pay $165 and that's for a full hour and they give you a whole bunch of pictures and a DVD of the scan.  Plus, my family can come with us.  We can have up to 10 people in the room.  So, we decided to have our scan on our one year wedding anniversary in August.

  • I'm saving my money. Yes the pictures are cool and I am sure a great experience for those that have chosen to do it, however at this point there are so many more substantial things I could do with $100 plus dollars.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • I wasn't planning on doing one, but my mom lives in NY and is coming to visit for a long weekend in August.  She has been a bit sad that she has missed most of my pregnancy.  I'll be at 30 weeks when she is here and my OB and I discussed doing one so that mom could have a surprise viewing of her granddaughter.  I plan on taking her out for breakfast & then swinging by my doctor to "pick something up".  Once we get there, I'll have the 3D u/s.  If it weren't for her being here, I would have saved the $175 though.

  • I'd rather spend my money on something for the baby. I think 3d ultrasounds are a waste.

  • $100!!! That is so cheap, in Miami they range from $200 to $400.  And I'm planning on getting one, I think is so worth it.  When I was born they didn't even have ultrasounds so for me to have a picture of the actual baby before s/he is even born I think its just amazing.  I wonder what they'll have in 20-30 years from now, when my kids are having their own kids...

  • I got a 3d u/s to determine the gender of my baby since the u/s tech at my anatomy scan was a dimwit. It was $95 for 20 minutes and it paid for itself in the first minute. It was absolutely amazing. I really liked it because other ultrasounds are basically just you staring at the screen while the tech takes measurements and you don't really get to see anything--at least I didn't. My big u/s was like a pp's--no good pictures just a blurry face and a blurry foot and was very rushed. Having 20 minutes (which doesn't seem like a long time, but totally is) to just stare at your baby is incredible. No measurements or switching from this to that, just looking at baby growing and having  fun in there was so incredible. We'll be going back at 30ish weeks or so for another one and taking our family along. So worth it.
