I still have until 8/6 for my BIG ultrasound but I have been thinking how we should tell our family and friends. Just curious what you have done. Thanks in advance!!

No. I wanted to but my mother and MIL were there..so they found out at the same time and DH was sending out a mass text as soon as the Tech said "It's a boy".
Naw DH was with me and I couldn't wait to tell everyone else so I just called. I did send out a cute little announcement via email to the people I didn't feel merited a phone call.
We're not planning to find out, and we didn't share the sex with our first two, so I don't have any advice, but we're due the same day!
Oh wait, someone we know did this (and we're sort of doing it, but modifying). They had the tech write the sex down. They went to a store, picked a boy and girl outfit. The cashier looked, rang up the appropriate outfit and gift-wrapped it. They went to dinner with their parents and siblings and opened the gift there and found out all together. We are doing that, but not opening it till the hospital. It will be our baby's coming home outfit.

My husband has been deployed so we are doing the ultrasound late (22 weeks) and finding out the monday after he gets back. Then that weekend at his welcome home bbq we are having cake that will be either pink or blue with white frosting. The friends and family will have to cut into the cake to find out!
I keep a blog, have for about 3 years now. It's how all our family and friends who don't live nearby keep up with us. At first, I wanted to find some magnetic letters and spell it out on the fridge and post a photo, but I couldn't find them anywhere! What I ended up doing was talking about the ultrasound, still referring to him as "the baby", posted all the photos except for the "peen" shot, and then the last photo was spaced so much you had to keep scrolling and scrolling between "its...a...." and then I posted the boy shot.
Within about 15 minutes of me posting it, we had tons of phone calls and emails. It was pretty awesome, everyone was really excited. We also got a DVD of our session (about 20 minutes), and I copied them for the moms, and made a little CD cover with the profile photo.

DH and I went to an entertainment only u/s and got a 5 minute video. Our baby was very proud and opened his legs wide withing 30 seconds!
Then that evening we went to dinner to celebrate our first anniversary and on our way home stopped by his parents to play the dvd. They thought we brought a long movie so they were offering us coffee, all sorts of things and we kept saying no, no just sit down. When the video came on and he showed himself my MIL smiled and gave me a hug and FIL and MIL hugged and congratulated both of us.
Then we went to my parents house to eat the top layer of our wedding cake. After a little chatting I asked them to sit on the couch and told them I had brought a suprise video for them. I played it and when my mom saw that it was a boy she started crying. She was so happy and congratulated and hugged both of us. My dad smiled and congratulated us then tried to convince us that the sonographer played the previous womans video... Then we sat down to eat the cake and afterwards my mom called one sister and my dad called my other sister.
You probably already know what your having by this date. We decided to have 4d US (the doctor was not able to tell us, due to baby position) I could not wait for week 30. So, we gave the tech a pair of boy and girl crib shoes along with a box. The idea was to have a pair of shoes placed in the box then go out to a nice dinner, where we could find out alone. We did not want to find out on a exam table. I was so excited when I opened my eyes to see the tiny silver ballet shoes. A girl!!! I still cry watching the video my husband recorded.
I am about a month late to this post but we just decided today how we are going to announce when we find out.
We will have all of our family gathered for my son's birthday in September and I am going to make him a shirt that says I'm getting a new (brother or sister). I am going to put it underneath a regular shirt and when it is time for cake I will "take his shirt off so he doesn't get cake on it" and see how long it takes everyone to realize what the made shirt says.?
Re: Did you do anything fun to announce sex?
My u/s isn't until 7/27 but I think this time around we will try to do something better than just tell everyone what the sex of the baby is.
We're not planning to find out, and we didn't share the sex with our first two, so I don't have any advice, but we're due the same day!

Both sets were completely suprised and happy.
