What do you need when you pump?
Do you pump in your office? At home? In a bathroom stall, like me?
I have a small pic of DS and a sign that says "privacy please"
What else do you use/have with you? A timer? Something to read?
Something to muffle the sound of the pump?
(I have a friend who used to pump while she drove. How the hell do you do that?)
Re: RP When You Pump, what (besides pump) do you need?
I pumped for six months, 2-3X a day in a disabled bathroom stall. We had an outlet installed in the corner away from the toilet and pulled an old office chair in. My sessions were about 10-20 minutes. People came in and out of the bathroom for the other stalls while I was there and after the first few times, it was no big deal.
Each day, I brought my pump (Avent), four bottles to pump into with sealing discs and lids, frozen packs in the insulated sleeves to store the milk, a big ziploc bag to hold the horns before and after, a receiving blanket for my lap in case there was a drip or spill (only happened once), and a pack of Medela breast pump wipes to wipe in between. The wipes were all I used throughout the day and at night, the pump parts would get a good scrubbing in hot soapy water. The milk was fine in the insulated sleeves in my locker for the day.
I have never pumped while driving but I have pumped while my husband was driving. Weird on a four lane highway with people passing by....
Me too.
Also, I decided to get multiple breast shields so I don't have to wash them during the work day.
I worked from home most of the time while I was pumping, so I pumped in my home office, but I did do regular customer/office visits and that's when things got interesting. I pumped just about anywhere I could... pump rooms, offices with doors, cars, bathrooms, hotel rooms, you name it.
Oh yes, and pumping while driving: https://worklifeunbalanced.blogspot.com/2008/04/where-i-pumped-today-fourth-in-series.html
In my pump bag, besides my pump and cooler bag, I always had my manual pump (Medela Harmony) in case it worked out to be easier to use that for a session or two, the Medela quick clean wipes (I used those when I pumped in the car), and a copy of The Milk Memos to read if I had a free hand and nothing else to do. I usually worked on my laptop while pumping, though.
Mommy to DD1 (June 2007), DS (January 2010), DD2 (July 2012), and The Next One (EDD 3/31/2015)
I either pump in my husband's office (I share an office with 2 guys) or in the lactation suite.
Other than the pump and bottles, I usually have something to read. I keep a picture of DD in the pump bag and DH has a picture of her on his desk.
My pump is pretty quiet so I don't worry about the noise. I keep an eye on the time (using either my watch or cellphone) but I pump until empty, so time is really just to give me a sense of how much longer I have to go.
