DS is 18 months but really isn't talking. Is he alone out there? Mia was talking a lot by this age, like putting words together. He kinda says a couple words but for the most part just points and grunts. He's going to his checkup in a couple weeks so I'll ask the doctor but this is normal right? Mia was just advanced by talking so much so early right? He's really smart in other areas. He understands everything you tell him.
Re: How many words is baby saying now?
DD is 14 months and already has quite an extensive vocabulary. She's always babbling and talking. We joke that she is going to be a motormouth when she starts really making sense of all her words. Having said that - I have friends with kids the same age and older than DD and they don't talk as much at all. Although our pedi says that DD is definitely above average for her age with her speech.
I'm sure it's fine, especially because you say he understands everything you're saying. He's just taking it all in and has been focusing on understanding rather than speaking. I would bring it up to the pedi if you are worried about it.

DD is 17 months and still pretty quiet... she actually has quite a few words, but doesn't use them very often. (Especially if you ask her too!
)
She can say some words pretty clearly - Momma, Dada, Bubba (our cat), more, ice, pop (popsicle), no, night-night, etc. and then has a bunch that only we can understand - open, eyes, nose, mouth, down, out, fish, shoes, etc.
Just lately, she seems to be trying more - attempting to make different sounds and stuff, so we'll see! And just last night, she put 2 words together and asked for 'more bubbles' a couple different times.
She waited a long time to babble as well - our pedi wasn't/isn't concerned. And like Kim said, she seemed to focus on her motor skills - she was crawling, walking, running fairly early.
