We had a bad storm come through, just lots of rain and a little bit of hail. Cable wasn't working so my kids and I were watching a movie. A friend of mine called me to go check on my storage room. I went down there and it was flooded!! I was standing there ankle deep in water. My husband is still in Iraq so I was freaking out how I am going to manage doing this. Thankfully my friend sent her husband here (he is on leave from Iraq) once they were done getting the water out of their storage room until she got her kids settled and could come help too. He helped move all my soaking wet boxes and stuff out so we could sweep the water out into the hall. I had a fussy baby in one hand and a broom in the other trying to get it out and my older two kids were not listening and kept coming up and down the stairs.
Thank goodness my friends came to help me otherwise I probably would have sat there looking at it in tears. So now I have all my crap up on a folding table and a bunch of chairs in my storage room with a fan running. I have some of my husband's military gear (they have too much crap!) hanging on the stairs leading up to the basement so they don't get full of mildew.
Thankfully a lot of my important stuff was still up here in my apartment because I have been procrastinating taking it all back down there after I moved here. I tried to call my insurance but of course it is a holiday so I can't do it over the phone. I took as many pictures as I could and I really hope we are able to get money back for the stuff that is damaged.
I just hope and pray it doesn't start to rain again like it is suppose to.
Re: Not how I wanted to spend my Friday night
I am so sorry! Thats awful....I am so emotional today and I dont know why...Your post made me cry. My DH just got home from a recent deployment in Iraq and I remeber so many times where the worst things happen when he is gone. Stuff that would have never happened if he was home to help! Thats just the way it always was!
Thank goodness for great friends!!
Good Luck hun I will be thinking about you!
