Question about formula after breast milk

So last night my DH had to give Quinny formula after he accidentally spilled the breast milk I pumped. She hadn't had formula for about three months so it wasn't exactly welcomed, but she took it. Anyway, about two hours later, she began throwing up. It was more between throwing up and spitting up. I told my DH it was because she wasn't used to formula so she was probably having a hard time with it.

Nonetheless, we called the advice nurse and had to know she was OK. She's OK, but I wanna know if anyone here has experienced this?

TIA!!!

Re: Question about formula after breast milk

  • Yes, we had that issue - projective vomiting and then mild throwing up. We had better luck when we mixed the two, and slowly added more formula and less milk. That's a good way to get your LO used to the formula. We now can go back and forth pretty easily, though I think he prefers the breastmilk!

  • We've noticed that Ada doesn't spit up with breast milk - only the formula we use to supplement. I don't know if this is an issue with the formula itself of the volume she is being fed (BM is in limited supply). We used Alimentum with her for a day and a half and she spit up huge volumes 3 different times so it's open for interpretation....
