Have you noticed an awful rotten fishy smell to the powder formula?
DS has been drinking the regular Similac Advance since 3 weeks old. Well, the Early Shield is replacing it so I cannot find it anywhere. Since he's been using the new stuff, he spits up a lot. Then one day I was making a bottle and noticed the awful smell. I threw the container away thinking it was bad. The new container smells just as bad. DS usually drinks 32 oz. a day. I cannot get him to finish his bottles now.
I just got off the phone with Similac and they are refunding the one container.I'm just going to transition him to milk since he's almost a year anyway.
I was just wondering if anyone has noticed the smell?
Re: Similac Advance users
Our youngest DS drinks Similac Advance with Iron. By mistake, when he was about 2 months old, I got the Early Shield stuff & fed it to him. It upset his stomach greatly- so much that I returned all of the un-opened stuff I had after trying the Early Shield for a week or two. It says on the container that it "may produce looser stools, like in breatfed infants", but our DS had a really upset stomach from it- he was fussy & gassy. And it was not like breastfed infant poop- I BF ALL of our kids & know what that looks like!
About a month ago, I contacted Similac/ Abbott via email when I realized they were replacing the Similac Advance with Iron with the Early Shield. I voiced my dismay & told them I would NOT be feeding him the Early Shield, but would switch brands all-together first. I told them about our experience with the formula. I told them how disappointed I was that they are phasing out the original stuff, which I have fed all 4 of my kids and have been feeding our youngest since he was about 2-3 weeks old. I asked them why I would want to switch his formula up mid stream! They replied to my email within 24 hours & asked me to call them so I could talk to a rep about my concerns, which I did. She confirmed that they are phasing out the original stuff & apologized for the inconvenience. She sent me some coupons and let me know that we can buy the Similac Advance with Iron thru the company. You can also get it (cheaper & free shipping) thru diapers.com. I have still been able to find it at Babies R Us, but not sure how long that will last...hopefully until he is ready for whole milk.
