confused by fussy DD

So DD has been increasingly fussy over the last 2 weeks. She is bottlefed BM so I thought maybe it was the bottle making her take in too much air so I breastfed her last night and it still fussed her up. Then I thought maybe she doesnt like laying flat (since she would make all these weird noises in her crib at night and wake up often) so I put her to sleep in her vibrating chair and she slept for much longer stretches at a time and didn't make those weird noises so Im wondering if she has reflux that worses when she lays down? BUT she never really spits up when laying in her crib at night...so maybe not? Im so confused and I guess Ill have to start cutting things one by one out of my diet to see if its that but from the list Ive seen I have no idea what I would eat since it seems that everything can cause fussiness..IDK, where is my manual for my LO..

Re: confused by fussy DD

  • I would call the pedi, they would have more suggestions on where to start.  It does sound like your LO may be having tummy problems but I didn't go through this so I'm just guessing. GL

  • Dairy seems to be a major culprit.  I had to cut it out of my diet and it made a huge difference!  I just did the main dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt, butter...)

  • It could be silent reflux.
  • LO is fussy because she's just "waking up" for the first time. Week one was a honeymoon period where she's always drowsy and peaceful. I wouldn't start an elimination diet (extremely stressful) just yet. But if you decide it's necessary, the first suspect food is always dairy. (I am dairy free- Arg!) Do burp her often, even when breastfed. And keep in mind that she hasn't learned to sleep yet so long periods of crankiness as she struggles to nod off are common.

  • She's fussy because she's a baby with an immature and open gut. DD was very busy and also only on BM for quite some time. She wouldn't Bf, though, so we used Dr. Brown's bottles and they seemed to help somewhat- but eventually I went off of dairy which helped a ton and then she is just now getting older and spitting up much much much less. It will get better although it seems like it never will. Why don't you BF hr all the time v. EP? If I could BF I can't imagine how much easier my life would be!
