What tests did your OB perform before...

you had drugs or went to an RE?

My story: I've had three pregnancies (a m/c before and after my DS).  Each time realatively no wait time for BFP.  This time we've been trying for 7 months.  Had CD3 bloodwork and all looked "normal."  Dr wants me to try clomid this month, but I'm wondering if we should have other testing before going that route.  An HSG, SA, etc.  While I don't *think* it's my husband's issue, I'm just beginning to wonder if I have some blockage or something.  I need to call the doctors office to get the Rx called in, so I was hoping to hear what is customary before pushing the issue with my Dr.

My OB just did the bloodwork at the beginning. Beyond that, the RE did the entire casework.

    So, the RE did:

    All bloodwork

    SA

    HSG

    Follicular ultrasound.

My insurance allows me to go directly to a specialist for the same copay as my OB. So I decided to go directly to the RE.  He is in the business of getting folks KU and I figured I'll go with the expert.

My insurance co. will not cover the RE until we have trying for a year (and since they were previously paying for my bcp, it is hard to fudge the length of time).  So, right now I am seeing the gyn. The insurance co. won't pay for anything fertility related yet, but I think it is a little easier to "get away with some stuff" at the gyn. So, I am trying to get as much covered as possible and so far it all has been.

Gyn had done/will be doing following tests before prescribing any treatment:

FSH, estradial (sp?), TSH, progesterone, SA, HSG, and I have also done an ovulation ultrasound.

    Hope that helps!

My OB didn't do anything.  I had a PPO that allowed me to go to the RE, but I needed the pre-approval for my IUI (they needed my marriage license for that to prove how long I had been married and trying).

My RE did CD3, HSG, and post coital test on me, DH had a SA done.

My OBGYN sent me to the RE...she didn't even try to do any testing for me.  I liked that she was easy and comfortable with referring me so easily.

OB gave me my scripts for Clomid, HSG, SA and CD 3 & 21 all at the same time. The way my cycle timing worked out, I was able to do HSG and blood work before starting Clomid. I'm not sure if others have mentioned this, but Clomid can thin your lining, and make your CM nonexistent. You're smart to want to have all tests completed before starting.

Mine also sent me right to the RE.  The RE did and ultrasound, every blood test imaginable on my husband and me, SA on my husband, CD3 for me and the hsg.  It showed signs of endometriosis and I just had a laparoscopy.  The RE didn't do or recommend anything until he could "see what was going on".

Well I've got an appt with an RE on 7/27.  I believe I will just be past this cycle when we meet so just maybe I won't need them :-)  I called my dr this AM and asked him to call back regarding some questions I have.  I'm going to ask for an HSG before starting the clomid, I think.

Oh and a friend of mine is a OB and said that since I've been PG three times she doubts my husband needs to have a SA at this point.

Go with an open mind and see what the RE says.  I was pregnant twice (but never successfully) and he did get an SA on my husband.  We were pretty sure it wasn't him too but the dr mentioned something about the shape that probably is nothing but he wanted to keep it "on the back burner".  So there could be things they want to check on with that.

And reading the later rubella post I remembered that my gyn did do some bloodwork.  She had me tested to see if I had immunity to chicken pox and mmr and had both of us tested for markers for cystic fibrosis.  The RE had her office fax those over to him.

I hope your appointment goes well.  I liked my RE right off the bat and I think it's very, very important.  He has done every test, analysis and procedure himself and I'm not sure how I would have dealt with it if I wasn't so comfortable with him.  Is your husband going with you to your appointment?  At my first appointment I went alone but my husband came with me after that.

I am sorry for your losses. My OB did the day 3 blood tests and the day 21 blood tests. She wouldn't do more even with my suspect history (2 early losses, frequent days-long spotting, erratic cycle lengths). Went to the RE for a consult in May. She laid out a whole plan of action- HSG, SA, possibly Clomid, injections/IUI. Fortunately, we were very blessed to conceive naturally a few days after our consult with the RE, so no need for those tests! The RE did put me on progesterone which I will take for another 3 weeks so even though we didn't need her services, she still was helpful. Good luck.
