2nd Trimester

Happiest Baby on the Block

Forgive me if this is an often-repeated topic, but I just watched the movie for the first time this weekend and was totally amazed at the techniques and how effective they are supposed to be for calming babies!  It might take me some time to master the swaddling/jiggling, and to feel comfortable "shhh!"-ing so loudly in my baby's ear, but gosh those little infants seemed to love it!

Anyone else planning to use/already used these techniques?  What do you gals think?

  • We've read the book & will see if it works on him.

  • Funny you should mention this - I have the book sitting on my nightstand, just waiting for me to delve into it.  I actually started reading it before my BFP on a suggestion from some friends who have a (now) 3 yo.  They swore by it!  Should be some good tips!
  • The techniques really worked for DS.  He slept best swaddled swinging in his swing with the shhhing noise setting (on the swing) up as loud as it would go.

  • My friend gave me the book and DVD. We're going to try the techniques.

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE that book! I am totally convinced that the 5 s's were responsible for my son being such a good peaceful baby and sleeper.

Glad to hear it worked for you.  I ordered the DVD and CD.

Which helped the most, the DVD or the book? I want to get one of them, but can't decide wether to read even more, or make DH sit and wtch a DVD some night.

  • DS was a really easy baby, so I didn't have to use them too often. But when he was fussy or overly cranky, the jiggling and shhing did wonders. He also loved to be worn in the Moby wrap as opposed to swaddling.

  • It worked for DS. We will try to use it on this baby too. I am also a fan of putting the baby on a schedule.

I just checked, you can get the DVD on Netflix, if anyone has a membership.

Darn.  I wish I had realized this before buying. Good tip!

Glad to hear it worked for so many people.  I'm excited to try it out!

  • We got the DVD from the library when DS was born, and it helped us a lot.  Especially the swaddling and shh noises.  He still sleeps with radio static in his room.
  • I'm reading this book right now and am almost done with it!! It sounds like a good plan to me as long as hubby and I can get the techniques down to a "T".
  • I'm going to give it a try.  All my friends used it and swear by it.
