What if??

At my doc. appointment today they did the blood work to test for birth defects and things.I know it wouldn't matter to me one way or another but why do they test for it?? Do they do it so you can still get an abortion or is it to help with your pregnancy??Since the test is not mandatory and only an option im assuming there isn't much they can do if it comes back positive for something. I just don't get why it makes a difference if the baby has those things or not.

Re: What if??

  • I asked my doctor these same questions, and basically they said it was to give you extra support and monitoring during the rest of your pregnancy. Im sure some people may decide to terminate the pregnancy (depending on how far along they are when the tests results are in).

  • I would think it is for help with your pregnancy.  I declined all those tests that weren't required.
  • I personally would never EVER get an abortion, but it would be nice to know what to expect and have time to research.
