Fioricet?

Does anyone here take Fioricet for migraines?

If so, how often do you take it and how often did your doc say you COULD take it?

How often do you have migraines?

I've found such conflicting informationo but my doc says if i limit to 1-2 a day that it's fine for the baby. I get debilitating migraines almost daily thanks to the beautiful weather we've been getting! (Did that sarcasm come through? - it's been raining for weeks straight now!)

I'm just curious if anyone is in the same boat and what they're doing... thanks!

Re: Fioricet?

  • I get migraines, and Fioricet only helps with the mild ones. My doctor told me I could take up to the max daily dose, which I believe is 6 in a 24 hour period. But for these mild migraines, 1 dose works for me.

If I get a really bad one, I need to take a triptan drug such as Imitrex or Relpax. In this case, only 1 of these tablets will knock it right out! I think you may want to talk to your doctor about switching to something else if one dose of Fioricet is not effective at resolving your migraines. It's better to take one dose of the right medicine, than having to repeat doses of a medicine that doesn't work so great.

My Dr just gave me the script a few weeks ago since even though I tried to cure my migraines with tylenol, it wasn't working.  I didn't want to take anything else, but the pain at times was getting unbearable.  I only take it if the pain is not subsiding after trying tylenol first and wrapping my head with a hot towel.  And I'll take one.  My migraines haven't been so bad since getting pregnant, but I have had a few so far that were intense.  I used to get migraines at least once of twice a month that put me out of commission, when I was pg with DS #1 I think I had one migraine my entire pregnancy, this time I'm not as lucky.

I also agree with this statement.  Try the Fioricet, if that's not helping, then talk to your doctor about something else.

  • Thanks everyone! It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one taking it - the fact that it's a strong drug scared me.
  • My doctor just prescribed it to me for headaches, but I have yet to try it. The Tylenol does nothing--I miss my Excedrin Migraine!
  • Yep, taking it. Last month I went through 30 pills but this month has gone somewhat better. I tried Loratab, Tylenol 3, Darvocet all with no luck. I ended up in the ER 5 times because they were so bad and my doc said to go. While there they gave me some heavy doses of Morphine which kinda scared me. If I dont take the Fioricet as soon as I feel it coming on then it wont work. GL!
