i have my big u/s in a few hours...i just realized i wasnt told to drink a lot of water! should i start chugging just in case? i guess i could get off my lazy butt and call...
I ate and drank normally before mine and my baby showed his goods. I was not told to have a full bladder. Never quite understood this...I think you should call though.
I usually drink a coke or orange juice before to get the baby moving. I've always been made to use the bathroom before they did any u/s. If they didn't tell you to have a full bladder, I wouldn't worry about it. They may make you empty yourself anyway.

With my first every ultra sound the place told me to drink 32 oz - that time I went to an ultra sound technician for the ultra sound and they sent the results to the doctor - with this my second PG my doctor sends me to another Dr. for ultra sounds (she says because i had Pre E the first time I''m more 'high risk' of going early and they need to do more ultra sounds this time?) BUT this doctor's office has NEVER asked me to come with a full bladder - the first time I went I even called to check and they said no. So maybe it depends who is doing the US or what type of machinery they have?
I think if they needed you to drink water they would have told you when you made the appointment. When I've had u/s the tech didn't seem to want me to have a full bladder.

I was told to drink 32 oz and finish drinking an hour before the appointment. I don't know how I'm going to hold all that liquid in for the hour before and the actual ultrasound!
The only reason I had to drink H2O was so they could get a pic of my cervix length and then they let me pee. If they didn't give you instructions I wouldn't think you would have to drink. Baby is big enough to see without a full bladder.
Re: to drink or not to drink?
i'd just call.
i wasn't told to do anything special before mine, and we saw everything we wanted to see... but i'd call to see what your doc prefers...
If they didn't give you any specific instructions prior to the appointment I wouldn't worry about it.
I was told to drink basically a bottle (16oz) of water within 30 minutes of my appointment. Each practice seems to differ on their policies, though.
