We do not like the mobile that comes with our bedding because the bedding is just pink/brown/white polka dots and the mobile has a zebra, elephant, giraffe and something else - totally random.
This mobile on etsy is made by a nestie and I love love it. It would go with our color scheme as well as this print we had framed and will hang in the nursery.
However, we have wall words up above the crib, so I worry that hanging a mobile from the ceiling in the same area will take away from the wall words. DH suggested we hang it above the changing table instead, but we have floating shelves above the changing table.. so again, distracting.
Should we just scrap the mobile idea all together? Will we miss having one? Why is this such a difficult decision for me/us to make?
Re: Yep, I'm a PW tonight. Opinions on mobile...
the last time someone was a PW so late into the night, she had a baby within 24 hours....
I say definitely you will need that mobile! If Camy is anything like Cooper, she will LOVE to stare at it. Cooper stares at it even when it isn't moving, he loves it so much. Plus, it helps soothe him to sleep. It's great when I want to plop the boys into the crib and do something, I just turn on the mobile and they're mesmerized.
Get one with music and lights and fun stuff that moves around (I can't open the link, it's taking forever to load and I'm trying to hurry to type this so I can get to bed at a decent hour. ha ha)
DD loves her mobile. She's only recently started looking at things like that. We have the Tiny Love one that plays classical music and attaches to the crib. She'll just stare up at for 20 minutes or more without getting fussy. Sometimes when she wakes up in the morning, she'll just stare at it and babble away for a long time before she demands my attention, which is really nice. So I would vote for having some kind of mobile because it has already come in handy for me.
ETA: I agree with Joyco; get one that plays music and turns. The one you picked is super cute though.
Well I feel like I can confidently guarantee I will not be having a baby in the next 24 hrs.
I worry about finding a musical/lighted mobile that won't totally clash with everything in her room - its all very soft so far: white furniture, pink stripe on the wall, brown wall words, pink and brown bedding & decor, etc. Are there any "fun" mobiles that aren't the bright/primary colors?
I am totally over-thinking this whole mobile thing! Ugh.?
The O'Baby Blog
ok, so I'm still here. But, our mobile clashes with every single thing in the room. It has black on it and I had banned black from their room. Black seems to be creeping in slowly. Ugh. But anyway, the mobile doesn't go with anything in there so I'm looking for one that will but for now, this will do. We got it off my sister so it's not like I paid for it. And it entertains the heck out of them, plus it's not like it's permanent and it will go away within the first year, I believe.
You are over-thinking it, I'm sorry dear.
You sound just like me though with the decorating details. I worried over curtains for ever and still now, I'm stressing on how to decorate the walls more so they're not so bare.

And this is coming from someone who's DD only wore pink for the first 6 months of life.
When she gets a little older NONE of her toys will match her room.
Mobile = toy
Toys don't have to match.
i guess i'll be the lone voice in this thread- i dont have a mobile that makes music or entertains in either crib and have never missed it a bit. i dont really think toys in the crib are a great thing necessarily. (and selfishly i didnt particularly think they were attractive).
lily plays alone in her crib for an hour sometimes and always has and eve puts herself to sleep already when put down awake. if i want her entertained, i put her on the playmat or in her bouncy seat. if i want her to sleep i put her in her crib.
no matter what you do, it will be totally fine.
DD loves her mobile, but I didn't get her one until she was 3 months old. I don't know how much she would have noticed it before then.
Ditto that the mobile is a toy, doesn't have to match. I bought one at HEB for $12.99 and it lights up and projects stars on the ceiling.
