2nd Trimester

Girl for sure???

Ok, so I went Saturday to ER (red spotting). They did an ultrasound and all was fine with baby and myself... Thank goodness! However, the tech said she "thinks it is a girl" We did see what seems to be the 3 lines and nothing else. She would not say 100% girl because I am only 17 weeks. BUT doesn't the three lines mean girl for sure...?? Things can't change in one week.... Supposed to go for real ultrasound next week.  Was she just saying this to be on the safe end or does this mean baby girl???

Re: Girl for sure???

  • There have been ladies on this board who've been told girl before 20 weeks and were later told boy. We were told girl at 17w2d and then reconfirmed (which a much, much clearer shot) at 25w3d.

  • My friend was told girl at 17 weeks, but then her big u/s was 21 weeks and it was a boy.
  • Anything could happen! I was told boy at 17 weeks, then found out at 20 weeks it was a girl. I know when mistakes are made, it is more frequently confusing boy for a girl. Chances are, she's probably right, just don't get your heart sold yet!

  • Our big ultrasound was at 17w6d and she is deff a girl! They were pretty sure she was a girl at 13 weeks, so it's possible. Atleast you only have a week to find out for sure! Big Smile
  • 3 lines does mean that it is a girl. If the tech says that she "thinks" it is a girl, I would cautiously believe it until it is confirmed. Some people are told a sex earlier and find out later it is the opposite.

We saw the 3 lines very clearly at our 18 week ultrasound, and it was confirmed at a 21 week follow-up ultrasound.

  • yeah at 16.5 we saw two balls, and the doctor said she was pretty sure at 20 weeks she will be telling us we are having a boy.  There was no mistaking what we saw unless our girl has something hanging there.

  • I was in the ER at 17 weeks with DD.  I found out then she was a girl.  Four weeks later, my big u/s confirmed girl.  At 32 weeks, I had to have an u/s twice a week till I delivered and she was always a girl!  They can tell that early, but it is more likely to be wrong than when you wait.  My doctor said they are more often wrong when they say it's a girl than when they say boy.

  • We had our big u/s at 19 weeks and the tech said a girl. She showed us the three lines, which I then compared to other u/s pics online of girls and she looks just like they do. Three lines.

I wouldn't rush to buy anything yet since you're not sure. Sometimes techs like to make a guess when they can't tell. 50/50 chance, afterall.
