2nd Trimester

Chiropractor

I posted this this am but didnt get any answers so I am trying again. has anyone been referred to the chiro by their OB? I have had the worst stiff neck you could imagine. My Dr said it could be from how I am sleeping due to the pregnancy. What exactly does the chiro do I have never been to one?

Re: Chiropractor

  • chiros are heavenly.  i've only been a few times, but it helped me sooo much.  the one i go to has someone who is certified in prenatal massage as well.  if your belly is big, you might not be able to lay on the table where the dr. straightens you out.

but what they did for me was i laid on my tummy and had electrode things on my back to help the pain for about 15 min, then he cracked my back & neck, then used a vibrating massager on my back.  3 times, and i was back to normal--this was for lower back/hip pain while i was running.

    good luck!!

  • I was at mine this morning!  He is heavenly as pp put it!  :o)  He actually works in the same practice as my MW's.  He does wonders for my sciatica, as well as the terrible upper back/neck pain I have.

I may not be your OB, but I highly suggest going.  GL  (but make sure you find somone who has experience with pregnant women.)

  • I used to be a chiropractic assistant so hopefully I can explain this well.  If you are experiencing pain somewhere in your body it is often caused by a nerve that is strained.  Your nerves originate in your spinal cord and branch through your body.  If your spine is not correctly aligned, these nerves can not function properly.

The chiropractor will use specific techniques to realign your spine so that it best suits your needs.  This will free nerve flow and help handle the pain.  Getting on a schedule where you see the chiropractor on a fairly regular basis will help keep your spine aligned and stop problems before they get too bad.

I currently see a chiropractor 2x/month and I have little to no back/neck pain.  Just make sure your doctor is familiar with treating pregnant patients because the treatment differs because of our changing bodies.

I go to one once a month for hip pain and headaches which I had prior to becoming pregnant. Now that I am pregnant, my doc just changed a few things in my routine (like the way I lay on the table, how low he can go on my back to align it) and I come out of every appointment feeling fully stretched and much more relaxed. I suggest going.
  • I have not been specifically referred to one by my OB, but I have been visiting one regularly even before being pregnant.  I highly recommend it and have gotten a lot of relief.  He or She will feel where your spine is out of alignment and gently manipulate it back to where it should be, basically cracking your back only much more precise.

  • I started going to one back in October for tension headaches. They were cause by my neck being out of alignment.

It has done wonders! I LOVE going. I currently go once a week and love going. He usually just pops my neck, shoulder blades, lower back and upper back. And sometimes I get the electrotherapy if my neck is super stiff. But I would highly recommend anyone going. It helped me ALOT.

  • Thanks all! Now I really cant wait until 3:00!
  • My OB referred me to a chiropractor and she has been WONDERFUL.  I had a stiff neck, could not turn my head at all and was in agony.  She definitely helped me to recover and I've continued to see her to keep my back or neck from causing any more problems as it moves during the pregnancy.

I'd never gone to a chiro before and I was seriously nervous, but I explained that to her, she told me what she was going to do and was very gentle.  It was totally fine!
