2nd Trimester

6 months pregnant question

I am going to Italy in October, I was curious what i'll be up against for being pregnant. I'll be 6 months.  It's safe for me to travel, and I know all about getting bottle water - etc.

Just looking for how uncomfortable you've felt, or anything you're experience so I can be prepared. Thanks :)

Re: 6 months pregnant question

  • I've heard that second tri is the best time to travel, so you should be ok.  Make sure you look into info on traveling abroad during pregnancy though.

  • With both my other pregnancies, I felt great at 6 months.  I would definitley recommend getting up a  few times on the flights and walk around - keep your circulation up.

    Have fun, I'm jealous!!

  • I get tired pretty easily. If I take DD to the zoo for 2 hours, my feet ache the next day.

So if I was going to Italy for sightseeing/tourist stuff, I'd be pretty exhausted and worn out. But if you're going to visit friends/family or take a laid back vacation, then I think I'd be fine.

  • I am 6 months now.  I can tell you that I would not want to be on a long flight because I get uncomfortable sitting for long periods and I also cannot walk around for long periods of time either without my feet/legs hurting and back hurting--- I am pretty small and in good shape too fwiw.

  • I traveled last week...was only 1.5 hour flight (to VEGAS)...felt great.  Had to get up to pee a few more times than usual...but other than that...no changes (no swelling from the flight, etc...) One thing that was NO fun, was I really couldn't be on my feet as long.  Usually folks do quite a bit of walking in Vegas, and my feet were just killing me! I don't think my feet have adjusted to the extra weight.  So, we had to do quite a few rest stops, and I slowed everyone down.  I made sure I was wearing comfy walking shoes...made no difference.  So, if you are planning on doing a great deal of walking...be prepared for some throbbing feet. I'm also flying this weekend...another short flight (2 hours), and am still feeling great.  I don't know about an International Trip to Italy though... BIG difference Surprise I think anyone would start to get a bit uncomfortable on that long of a flight.

  • I travel a fair amount for work, though not a longer trip like Italy. For the plane itself, make sure you bring snacks, and consider buying a neck pillow. That really helped me get comfortable on my last flight! Also, definitely dress for comfort on the flight... I'm all about yoga pants.

While you're there, just be sure to plan the trip so you allow yourself rest breaks, and don't try to cram too much in. You'll need to just go with how you feel. I find that I can get pretty tired when I walk long distances or am just out and about for a while. Nothing a nice long pizza lunch won't fix Smile

  • I feel fantastic. I have minor swelling in my hands and feet by the end of the day, but that is about it. I think that at about 6 months you would be at a prime time to travel! Just make sure you are doing "ankle pumps" and drawing the ABC's with your toes to keep that blood flow going to your legs. Try to get up and walk around also while on your flight to prevent blood pooling in your legs. (I am a nurse) Have fun abroad!

  • A friend of mine traveled around that point and felt great. The only problem was that she had really bad leg swelling during the return flight home, despite walking around a lot. Maybe you could get some of those high socks that aid circulation for the plane?

  • Im 25 weeks and if I could go to Italy right now I would. I feel pretty great other than being tired. One thing I would worry about is how much walking you will be doing while in Italy. My feet tend to swell up if Im on them too long and I get really tired easily. Just makes sure you give yourself time to see what you want without having to do it quickly.

Also while on the plane I would try to get up and walk every hour of so to keep your blood flowing.

  • I went from Boston to Vegas at 24 weeks.  The longest leg was 4 or 5 hours.  It really wasnt that bad.  I slept through most of it.  Drink lots and lots of water.  I got an aisle seat so I could get up alot, and bought a neck pillow so I could sleep (I normally prefer window seats for this reason).  My feet were pretty swollen by the end, but otherwise it was fine.

  • I went to Greece, about a 14 hr flight and was fine. I got up and walked around when I had to pee, took naps and went through every name in my baby book. Have a wonderful time, say hi to my whole fam over there! :)
