My baby's heartbeat was 175 at 9 weeks, 160 at 13 weeks, and 145 at both 16 and 18 weeks. It sort of worried me that it dropped so significantly, but my doctor said it's normal for the heartbeat to be high early on and then lower as the pregnancy progresses.
As for the boy or girl part, there is no scientific evidence linked to the rate of the baby's heartbeat. However, old wives tales say if it's higher than 140 the baby is a girl, and a boy if it's lower than 140. I'm having a girl, so it was right for me, but that's not always the case. My nephew's heartrate was 155 almost the whole time.
Re: 12 Week Heart Beat
Normal! They say anything from about 120-180 is normal.
Unfortunately the "OWT" about hr is totally untrue.
Mine was 162. Not sure if there's a "normal", as long as your doc says it's ok.
And the HB thing is an old wives tale. But, slow = boy, fast = girl.
