ANTS!

DH and I are currently renting a townhouse (temp. living. We move in Sept.), and our landlord SUCKS. We've had ants for the past month due to a dirty neighbor, and there has yet to be an exterminator.

That being said, I think one is coming tomorrow. What would you do? Just open up windows to get some ventilation and try not to be at home for awhile? I, too, am nervous about pesitcides.

Re: ANTS!

  • Most of their stuff won't get into the air, but I would just have DH stay home and go shopping or something for a few hours.

I hate ants.  I used to feel bad killing them...that was until like 100000 got into my garage when it rained.  DH killed every one of them!

  • Eek, they're so disgusting. I hate them with a passion at the moment. They're only in a select area in the kitchen, but having them near any of our food totally freaks my freak.

  • Are they the little ones.  That's what we had in the garage.  I felt like they were crawling all over me.

  • We just had our house sprayed for carpenter ants.  I was told by the exterminator to leave the house for 24 hours.   The smell wasn't too bad - we ran the air exchange in the house and kept that A/C on while he was in.  We tried to keep it ventilated as much as possible and I was vigilant about washing everything on the counter that could have been exposed.

I would ask the person who is doing it how long you should leave and what you can do about minimizing exposure.  Don't worry too much!  It's wonderful to have an ant free home!

good advice.. thats exactly what i was going to suggest! lol

  • When we had someone come out to spray our home last summer and they had me and DS leave for at least 8 hours.  They said the cats were fine, but I kept them upstairs in a bedroom because they only sprayed two rooms downstairs and the basement.
  • No idea about the extermination but my MIL told DH and I yesterday that leaving small amounts of cornmeal around the house gets rid of ants.  We have ants killing our apple trees outside right now but not inside (yet).  You might try that after the extermination if they come back.
