2nd Trimester

As you begin your nesting, I have a word about paint!

Just wanted to share this- non-VOC paint is the BEST kind that you want for your babe.

It costs like, 2-5 bucks more, and it's a safe alternative for both you (while painting), and baby (once they get here).

We were able to have them mix it for us at OSH, and it was fantastic- looks great and there are no fumes to make a pregnant woman lose her lunch.

Just somethin' to think about!

  • Meh. Wish I would've read this BEFORE I got the new gallon of paint for the nursery!

    EEK! Surprise

I'm sorry! Perhaps you could call for return? At the very least, if it's not non-VOC, you should have someone else do it for you!

  • However, if you are re-doing other rooms in your house and don't feel like painting you can buy the VOC paint and make DH do all the painting.  Sadly I did this for our bathroom.  I hate painting with a passion!

For the nursery though we are going green and getting the no-VOC paint.

Yea, luckily I have my uber-excited mother painting it. :) And the windows are open right now to air it out.

  • We are actually painting our whole house with this paint this summer! The only thing that kinda stinks is that the color choices are limited!

    Not at all!!

Depends on where you go, but you mix your own non-VOC selection- we just picked out a color from a Dutch-boy template, and the guy at the paint center mixed it for us and saved the code in case we needed more...

It was SO helpful! Don't worry, you're not that limited!

We got ours at Lowes and they can match any color you want.  Many brands offer very low or no VOC now!  And most places will easily match colors for you if you have a swatch.

Thanks! We were looking and were only able to find it at Home Depot and Lowes. Both places told us that the non-VOC could only be mixed with the specific colors of that brand (I think it's called Fresh Air).

  • We just used LOW VOC paint from Benjamin Moore and were really, really happy with it.  It's not quite VOC-free, but it covers great (one coat, no primer) and the color is fantastic.

  • We used Olympic zero-VOC primer, and their low VOC paint. We took a Benjamin Moore color wheel in to Lowes and they matched it with their magic matching machine.

There is a rebate on gallon size Olympic paints at Lowes this week, FYI. :)

We got Benjamin Moore too! They have two brands now. One has very little VOC and is called Aura,  the second just came out and is called Natura and it has zero VOC. We went with the Natura and are extremely happy with it. You are not limited with colors at all, you can get any BM color! It was SO nice to paint without fumes!!

By the way, the Natura line also has a primer! It was AWESOME, no smell at all! (which if you've ever used primer, you know that is fabulous news!!)
