2nd Trimester

Question about moving...

My mother lives 19 hours away, and has asked my husband and I to come live with them when the baby is born. I'm currently going to law school, and can easily transfer. I know that my mom and sister could help me greatly. Also, my stepfather has a business that he's wanting to pass on to my hubby (who never seems to find a job he likes). I know that moving will be the best situation for us.

However, I'm just not sure how it will work. I'm 14 wks and high risk. I have a doctor here, and have to finish this next semester at school (which will put me 2 wks from due date). So, it's either move 2 wks before due date or move immediately after. Our lease will run out right at the due date, and we either have to renew or move.

I'm concerned  about a doctor for me and the baby immediately after, and about moving so soon after.

Anyone have any experience or advice to share?

Re: Question about moving...

  • No experience here my family lives here in charlotte.Only my inlaws are in another country. I would say that you should talk to your husband and see what the best options are i am sure that your mom and sister would want to see the baby and be a great help when you go back to school. at the same time your inlaws too you have to please everyone and i know how it can get.  But i would say its between you guys what the best options are. Moving is stressful and def the dr wouldnt want that right? talk to your husband and see what happens

  • I am moving 1000 miles away just a few weeks after lo is born. I have started researching peds and ob there and getting tentative appointments set up for as soon as we get there. It sounds like a great opportunity for your family. You can make it work. Good luck.
  • I would talk it through with your DH. Does he want to move and take over the business? If so, I would do it after the baby is born because moving while pregnant is hard! We just did it, and I was only 25 weeks then. I can't imagine doing it 2 weeks before my EDD, and being high risk...definitely not good.

  • I don't have any experience, but it sounds like the move would be good for you guys in the long run.  I think moving after the LO is born would be okay as long as you had a lot of help (with the physical move) and support with baby.  Good luck with your decision! :)

  • I don't have any advice for you. Where in Arkansas are you? I'm in the nw corner.
  • Julie, I'm close to Fayetteville, and not enjoying our hot weather lately! :)
  • Small world. I'm in Rogers. We are sitting out back now. The breeze is really nice. I find it hard to believe it's only 79 here though. The 74% humidity today is killing me. I wish I could stay inside. Sadly I have a two and a half year old who doesn't seem bothered by the heat.
