Opinions on spelling

We are pretty set with a girls name, but there are variations on the way it is spelled. I am undecided on how we would want it, so which do you prefer. The name originally is Gaelic and was traditionally a boys name - Cailin or Cailen

Kaylen

Cailyn

Kaelyn

Kailynne

Right now I am leaning towards the top two.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Re: Opinions on spelling

  • Cailyn.  I hate the trend of K's and Y's adn both in a name?  REALLY dislike.

  • Thanks. See this is what is interesting to me. Cai seems more creative in spelling since Kay is spelled Kay traditionally. So that is why I wanted other peoples thoughts.

(Oh and my name is spelled with a K and I don't think it is "trendy" since I had the K spelling since 1971)

  • I know a girl named Cailin, spelled that way as well.  I am also not a fan of y's in names where an 'i' is perfectly acceptable.  I would go with Cailin b/c it is simple and looks nice.

I like Kaelyn the best but I think that Kaylen may be an easier alternative for her.

Of your list I prefer Cailyn, but I also really like pp's suggestion of using the traditional spelling Cailin.

Oh, of course some names are traditionally spelled w/ a K.  Jane has also been spelled Jayne.  In the right names, these letters don't bother me.  But in names that aren't traditionally spelled using those letters- I can't stand it.

The Cai spelling really makes me want to say Ky-lynn rather than Kay-lynn.

  • We put our mothers names together Kay and Lynn for dd's middle name.  She has a y in her first name so I couldn't do two more. I spelled it Kaylin.

  • I like Cailyn
  • The second one.
  • Kaylen or Cailyn, but probably Cailyn.
