NBR - pity party, table for 1

So I have not had my hair cut since DD was born.  Right before she was born, I had it highlighted, cut, etc and it looked awesome.  Now it's just super long and annoying.

As most of you know, DH is still looking for work and I'm now a SAHM, so our finances have been compromised, to say the very least.  I kinda just didn't even worry about something as trivial as a haircut for myself since other things take priority, etc.  Well, we got a coupon in the mail for one of those super cheap places, and for $6.99 - I figured - how bad could they screw up my hair?  I deserve a haircut since my last one was in OCTOBER.  Yay, I'll feel pretty again!

To make a VERY long story short, they can screw things up pretty bad.  I've now got a Friend's haircut - circa 1994, and I wanted something a lot more simple.  She put layers in the back when I specifically said I just wanted them in the front, the overall length just now grazes my shoulders when I told her I wanted it to fall just PAST my shoulders, the razored "layers" that she put in the front are choppy and sloppy, I could go on and on and on...

Some of this I caught during the cut ("oh, you DON't want layers in the back?" but by then it was too late) but some of it was a nice surprise too.

I know, what could I expect - it was $6.99!  I was just beyond upset.  Bawling as I drove home, freaking out b/c I have no idea how to style this chop job.  I spritzed my hair with water/re-dried it, chi-ed it, and still fell yucky.  DH is being really sweet - saying it looks cute and pretty and all that he's supposed to say, but I HATE IT.  And this is not the kind of place that you can go in and demand your $6.99 back - not like they'd be able to fix it anyway with their limited skills.

Okay, pity party over, thanks for reading - and here's to hoping that the PNV's I'm still taking will really work their stuff and grow me some hair fast.

  • I'm in the same situation - except my hair lady is my AUNT. I got my hair cut 2 weeks ago and still hate it. It looks nothing like the picture I gave her. Now I look like a BOY. DH even hates it - and complains openly about it. Crying

I did just find a way to only pin my bangs (which she cut about 3 inches too short) back that I look like a girl. phew. it will grow out. i have to pump myself up to feel better.

  • That's so sad. :(  I'm so sorry.  It will grow back.  Also it's summer and so hot so you will probably be wearing it up every day anyway (I know that I am)! :)

  • oh that sucks. i'm so sorry. i know you probably just want to feel pretty after all this time and you get a crappy hair cut. bad hair chick! i'd say "hair stylist" but clearly "stylist" does not apply to her!
  • SOOO sorry, I know how you feel! I got a $30 ( I should have only paid 6.99!) whack job b4 we left for michigan. I told the lady 3 inches just trim the dead ends,  I got 5 inches and layers ummm thanks?!? It SUCKS!

Anyway,  I am sure it looks better than you think it does, we are our own worst critic, right?

    Stupid $6.99 haircuts!

  • Ugh...I'm so sorry...I really wish there was something I could do to help--maybe sit at your "table" and tell you it's not as bad as you think. Having had hack jobs before, it will grow out and you will get the hang of doing it/dealing with it.

although you didn't ask--here's some dust

  • When we first moved here I got a few haircuts and it took me over a year to get good hair again; I had to drive back up to Dallas every two months for a trim/reshape.

    I feel your pain.

  • Could be worse...one of my co-workers recently paid $125 plus tip for a crappy haircut she hates.  At least you are only our $6.99?
  • I'm sorry!  I have had that happen before and I think I cried for a week but as it grew out it actually looked cute so maybe there is hope?  I still go to the cheap places every now and then but only to get a straight trim across the bottom.  **Fast hair growing dust**
  • That happened to me when Marisa was 3 weeks old...only I looked like Joan Jett, not Rachel from Friends.  I ended up having someone else cut it to my chin in a bob (the only way to fix it).  It's the only time I ever cried over hair.  What I'm trying to say is that I'm so, so, sorry, and I've so been there.

FWIW, what you're describing sounds like it would look great on you--but I know it doesn't change that it's not what you want.

  • I am so sorry!  Bad haircuts are the worst.  Are you sure you don't want to try to get a re-do on the cut?  Maybe get a manager with more experience to try to fix it?  I mention this because I recently had a bad haircut experience, and I called the salon to complain and they gave me a re-do with another (better) stylist at no charge.  I actually finally broke down today and called them about it (I figured the fact that I was crying trying to fix my hair wasn't a good sign).  They fit me in right away and now I have a haircut I LOVE.  Granted, it's shorter than I originally wanted (my issue was a layers issue--what's the deal with stylists going crazy on the layers??), but it looks so much better.

If you can't go back and get a re-do, I hope it you find a way to style it/work with it that makes you happy.  I know it stinks to have a haircut you hate.

  • Thanks for all the advice/sympathy guys.  It's good to know I'm not crazy for crying about it!

I think I'll give it a week or so before I make a decision on trying to get it fixed or not.  And FWIW, I will definitely not be going back to this place to get it fixed (I just don't trust them at all).

Thanks for all the fast-hair-growing dust....This too shall pass...
